Open Post: Hosted By The New TikTok Trend Where People Drink A Grimace Shake From McDonald’s And Pretend To Pass Out

June 27, 2023 / Posted by:

For the past 83 years, McDonald‘s has been providing late-night drunken meals and early-morning bubblegut sandwiches for people who love questionable food. They also tend to introduce questionable drinks as well, including their purple passion project milkshake named after Barney’s long-lost dopey cousin Grimace, one of their OG mascots from back in the day. In celebration of his 52nd birthday, The Grimace Shake is the latest offering in McDonald’s arsenal of sweet treats, and it’s catching on with their consumers. But not because it’s the best thing that’s ever come out of the franchise (which is the equally questionable mystery meat sandwich known as the McRib). Mainly because the youth have found a way to spend their money on the shake just to waste it in a challenge where it appears they’ve died after drinking it.

Insider reports that the challenge, blowing up on the vapid wasteland known as TikTok, is pretty simple; in one frame, you post yourself enjoying the shake. Then moments later, you’re passed out with the shake sprawled out next to or all over your body. Why? Boredom and a lack of common sense, I would assume, because this sounds stupid as hell. But then again, so were mood rings, Tamagotchis, and the idea of Donald Trump becoming President once again. So I guess if you’re going to do something mindless, this is much better than being a Trump supporter.

It’s been more than a week since McDonald’s released a special birthday meal for its beloved furry mascot Grimace, but the internet is still not over it. And it’s not the under-eight-year-olds — who Happy Meals typically target — who are obsessing. Rather, it’s Gen Z TikTokers who seem to have taken to the purple milkshake.

Many users of the short-form video app have hopped onto the viral #GrimaceShake trend — the hashtag boasts more than 263 million views as of June 27 — to film themselves trying out the Grimace shake and pretending to pass out afterward.

Luckily, most of these videos are really short, which aligns with people’s goldfish-like attention spans. So this is a challenge you can easily get into if you so choose because it doesn’t require much thought or dedication. But don’t take my word for it because this is the kind of fuckery you need to see with your very own eyes. Prepare to go blind from these eye-roll-inducing moments of “Why?

I think the next challenge should be even crazier! Go to McDonald’s, purchase the Grimace shake, drink it, then….that’s it! And what’s the challenge, you ask? Not being a thirsty attention whore. But that’s probably a hard thing to do because nobody will give you any clicks or likes for that.
