Chris Martin Says He Only Eats One Meal A Day To Look Like Bruce Springsteen

Insider reports Chris Martin went on Conan O’Brien’s podcast, Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend, and the pair chatted about meeting their heroes. Conan asked Chris if any of his idols ever gave him advice over dinner, and Chris revealed that, actually, he doesn’t eat dinner anymore. He stops eating at 4 pm and only has one big meal daily. Like a snake! Now, before you blame Chris’ strict diet on his ex-wife, bone broth enthusiast Gwyneth Paltrow, think again. It’s actually Bruce Springsteen’s fault! Turns out The Boss doesn’t just have a Hungry Heart; he also has a Hungry Tummy.

46-year-old Chris explains that, while having lunch with Bruce last year, he noticed that the 73-year-old music legend looked fitter than him and was inspired to copy his diet. via Insider:

“I actually don’t have dinner anymore. I stop eating at 4 and I learned that from having lunch with Bruce Springsteen,” said Martin. “I was lucky enough to go over there to lunch the day after we played Philadelphia last year. I was on a really strict diet anyway. But I was like, ‘Bruce looks even more in shape than me.'”

That’s when Bruce’s wife, Patti Scialfa, informed Chris that her husband only eats one meal daily. Chris tells Conan, “I was like, ‘Well there we go. That’s my next challenge.'” Then he joked that Bruce’s one meal a day was a buffalo flank with a side of steroid sauce. Here’s Conan and Chris’ chat:

Conan also talked about how he loves it when huge celebrities have the same problems as he does (a huge celebrity). He recalls hanging out with Bruce and Patti after a charity event and mentioning that he wasn’t a huge fan of The Grateful Dead. Bruce replied that he thought a lot of their music was great, but some of it he didn’t love. That’s when Patti cut in and exclaimed, “I love The Grateful Dead! What are you talking about??” Conan says he could see Bruce “walking it back”, “like anyone else who’s with their partner.” Then he did an impression of the couple’s conversation:

Bruce: I did not mean to imply that the Grateful Dead-

Patti: Well, I think they did amazing stuff, how could you say it?

Bruce: Again, I would like to state- I did not mean-

Conan says he could relate to Bruce putting “his foot in it” with his wife. Chris added that he once mentioned to BeyoncĂ© that his knee hurts after performing onstage, and she said, “Yeah, me too.” He thought it was cool they both had the same “work complaints.”

But back to this one-meal-a-day craziness. One meal a day? One meal a day?? I would simply perish. This isn’t the first time Chris has talked about fasting. Back in 2016, he told Fresh 102.7 that he fasts one day a week. Chris claimed it makes him sing better, and “also I felt so grateful for food.” Last week, his ex Gwyneth got shit for talking about her own experiences with strict (clearly disordered) dieting and intermittent fasting. Either way, that family must have one fucked up relationship with food. For Chrissakes, they named their daughter Apple! Why didn’t they go with something more filling, like Meatballs or Cheesecake??
