Lance Bass Says That Britney Spears Still Has A “Wall” Of People Around Her

Britney Spears has been a free woman for nearly seven months now, and the mileage of your imagination may vary, but I’m sure many have pictured Britney spending the last seven months knee-deep in freedom-based activities of her heart’s choosing like unlimited Starbucks runs or indoor fashion show twirl parties with her besties. Except according to Lance Bass, we all might be stretching the freedom fantasy a little thin. Because Lance counts himself as Britney’s friend but he can’t seem to book any one-on-one time with her, due to his belief that Britney’s inner circle is still being tightly controlled.

There was always the impression that Britney’s daddy, Jamie Spears, was the one running the conservatorship show over the past 13-ish years. And that once he was out, Britney had full control over her life. But if Lance Bass’ alleged experience is any indication, then there might still be some people who are screening Britney’s front gate for guests and telling them to take a number and come back later. Lance got serious about his current relationship with Britney at the Vanderpump Dog Foundation’s annual World Dog Day event in Hollywood (never has a sentence felt more like it was ripped from a 30 Rock script). According to Lance, he doesn’t feel like he’s being allowed to have a relationship with her at all right now. via Page Six:

Lance Bass doesn’t believe Britney Spears is entirely free. The former *NSYNC heartthrob claims to Page Six that he has not been able to get in touch with the Princess of Pop since her conservatorship was terminated in November 2021.

“Not at all,” he told us…making sure to note that he has tried to reach out. “It’s just, you know, there’s a wall around her,” he alleged. “And for some reason, those people don’t want her old friends involved with her life.”

Page Six notes that Lance and Britney have been friends for a looooong time, and that Britney was one of the first people Lance came out to (before he came out publicly). But Page Six also points out that Lance has spoken in the past about how he felt he had been iced out of Britney’s life during her conservatorship. Okay but to be fair Lance, pretty much everything was iced out. Friends. Family. Privacy. The ability to be in one’s bedroom without feeling suspicious about the new teddy bear with the spy cam-looking eyes that was randomly placed on a nearby dresser. Page Six says that Lance claimed in a podcast that he hadn’t seen Britney since 2016 and that generally, it felt as though he was deliberately being kept away from her. Again, see notes above on how pretty much everyone likely received a hollow dial tone when they tried to dial Britney for a lunch date (but especially someone who is in regular contact with Justin Timberlake).

Even though Lance can’t seem to figure out a way to scale that metaphorical wall that he believes is separating him from his good friend Britney, he says that he wishes her luck and that she “seems very happy,” so that makes him happy.

Britney may have people watching out for her still, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing when you’re coming off nearly 13 years of trauma. Or maybe Britney is keeping things private for herself so she can enjoy her freedom on her own time without owing anyone shit. She did delete her Instagram for a bit last year so that she could celebrate her engagement without nosy types popping in and bothering her with an endless supply of questions, comments, and opinions about it. And I know Britney is too nice of a person, but part of me thinks it would be funny if Britney herself was the one blocking Lance’s calls. “Bless his heart, he’s a nice boy, but I just know that if we get together he’s gonna drag me into one of his TikTok dances, and y’all know I’m more of an Instagram person.
