Britney Spears Has Thanked The #FreeBritney Movement For All Their Work

When it comes to people getting paid, it’s not too bold of a statement to suggest that everyone deserves to be compensated fairly for their work (has Grimes fake-read that chapter yet?). But for the past couple of years, the internet has proved that some Britney Spears fans were more than willing to work for her freedom for free. Figuratively and literally, the only compensation they wanted was freedom. The #FreeBritney movement worked overtime to see Britney Spears be released from her conservatorship, and she’s almost there. Britney recently acknowledged her #FreeBritney army, and let them know that all her recent conservatorship wins couldn’t have been achieved without them.

2021 is turning out to be a good year for Brit. She got engaged to her boyfriend Sam Asghari. She got a court system designed to work against her to actually hear her side of things. She was allowed to pick her own lawyer, Mathew Rosengart. And a judge suspended Britney’s father Jamie Spears as conservator and ordered him to turn over all the financial records kept while he was managing Britney’s money. And most recently, Britney is free enough to get as naked as the Instagram nudity guidelines will allow her, and she’s reportedly thinking of moving into a new house with her fiancé.

And none of it could have happened without a huge team of loud fans screaming “FREE BRITNEY” to anyone who would listen. Yesterday Britney gave her birthday suit a break and returned to her closet to select her best off-shoulder white eyelet top and starched white jean shorts, and addressed her subjects in a video posted to Instagram and Twitter. Sorry, her comment addressed them; Britney herself remained quiet in her video and stuck to executing a variety pack of poses. But she would like all her fans to know that they played a massive part in her newfound freedom.

Well, I’m sure that once the #FreeBritney types stop blushing from that heart-to-heart shout-out, some of them will be back to their regularly scheduled business of over-examining that video and caption and suspiciously wondering if the real Britney wrote and posted it.

But just because the #FreeBritney movement found their efforts to be successful doesn’t mean they can all retire from active duty. First of all, Britney is still technically under a conservatorship, so it’s not done done. And secondly, because there’s a new foe out there desecrating Britney’s name and image. Last night, Tyra Banks dressed up in “Hit Me Baby One More Time” drag for Dancing With The Stars’ Britney week.

Later, Tyra came out in a dress inspired by Britney’s iconic MTV VMA snake-accessorized performance. She also gave a personal shout-out to “living legend” Britney Spears.

I’ve never seen such disrespect done to the grey cardigan and fuzzy pom-pom braids, but it’s that snake ensemble that really has me shaken up. #FreeBritney army, assemble! Your next task is to get justice for that poor snake. What did that snake do to end up covered in tacky gold craft beads and glued to cheap chiffon draping and illusion netting?
