Britney Spears Wants To End Her 13-Year Conservatorship For Once And For All

As expected, Britney Spears was finally able to rip off the muzzle that her conservators have been trying to keep over her mouth and spoke for herself today in a court hearing about her conservatorship. Brit’s testimony was far from the happy twirls and rainbow-colored words of positivity she lets out on Instagram. In fact, Britney says she isn’t happy at all and just wants to live her life under her own terms and wipe her own ass without someone popping into the bathroom to say, “Just want to make sure you’re using two toilet paper squares and not three.” Britney wants out of the conservatorship, accused her father of being a cold-hearted money-hungry abuser, and made it clear that she’s not here “to be anyone’s slave.” So Britney fans who have been asking for new stuff from her just got it. They got the emancipation remix of I’m A Slave 4 U called I’m NOT A Slave 4 U.

39-year-old Britney was put under a conservatorship in 2008 after her breakdown and since then, her dad, Jamie Spears, has had control of her life. The New York Times reported this week that as long ago as 2014, Brit Brit has been telling the court, through her court-appointed lawyer Samuel D. Ingham III, that she was concerned about her dad’s drinking, among many other things. In 2016, Britney told an investigator that she was sick of being a dancing little ATM machine for those around her and she wanted out of the conservatorship. And during the past couple of years, we heard that Britney not only wanted her dad out as conservator but wants to be done with her conservatorship altogether.

Well, during today’s hearing, Britney became the supreme leader of the #FreeBritney movement and laid it all out in the Los Angeles court hearing that she requested. Britney spoke via a phone call and read a prepared statement. She also made it clear that she wanted the public to hear what she had to say. Late last year, Britney told her fans through Instagram that she’s the happiest she’s ever been. But in court today, Britney told Judge Brenda Penny that she was lie-telling back then because she’s in a deep depression over her situation. via People:

Spears began her statement with, “I have a lot to say, so bear with me. I don’t think I was heard on any level when I came to court last time.” Speaking about her prior music and tour commitments, Spears said she “is not here to be anyone’s slave.”

Speaking rapidly, Spears then addressed her recent social media posts, admitting, “I’ve lied and told the whole world I’m OK and I’m happy. It’s a lie. I’ve been in denial. I’ve been in shock. I am traumatized. Fake it ’til you make it, but now I’m telling you the truth, OK? I’m not happy. I can’t sleep. I’m depressed. I cry every day.”

Britney said that the people who have done this to her should not be able to get away with it (“Why is everybody looking at me?!” – Daddy Spears). At the start of her testimony, Britney said that she was forced to do her 2018 tour and was told that her management could sue her if she didn’t. But because she was under a conservatorship, she couldn’t get her own lawyer so she was stuck. Once she came off that tour, she went straight into rehearsals for her new Las Vegas show, which she said she practically directed and choreographed herself. But when she refused to do one little dance move during rehearsals, her managers held a meeting and accused her of being difficult and not taking her meds, which was bullshit. Her managers finally told her that she didn’t have to do the new Vegas show if she didn’t want to, and she felt like 200 pounds was lifted off of her. We were told at the time that Britney was taking a break from Vegas to care for a sick Daddy Spears, which was obviously not the case. But Brit not doing the show came with a price. She was put on Lithium. via Variety:

Three days later, after I said no to Vegas, my therapist sat me down in a room and said he had a million phone calls about how I was not cooperating in rehearsals, and I haven’t been taking my medication. All this was false — he immediately, the next day, put me on lithium out of nowhere. He took me off my normal meds I’ve been on for five years. And lithium is a very, very strong and completely different medication compared to what I was used to. You can go mentally impaired if you take too much, if you stay on it longer than five months. But he put me on that and I felt drunk. I couldn’t even have a conversation with my mom or dad really about anything. I told him I was scared, and my doctor had me on six different nurses come to my home, stay with me to monitor me on this new medication, which I never wanted to be on to begin with.

Britney said that her family didn’t do shit to help her and her dad approved it all since he has to approve everything in her life. As part of her treatment, she underwent a four-hour psych test every day against her will and was later told by her dad that she failed, so she had to go to a small house in Beverly Hills where she’d undergo a rehab program that they created for her. It cost $60,000. She cried to her dad and “he loved every minute of it.”

During her time in that “rehab program,” she told Judge Penny that she had to work 10 hours a day, seven days a week, and was constantly surrounded by nurses and security guards who watched her every move. Her phone, credit cards, and passport were taken away from her. She compared it to sex trafficking. If she didn’t work or do any of her meetings, she wasn’t allowed to see her kids or her boyfriend Sam Asghari. Britney added that her dad loves to control and hurt her.

Britney told the court that she’s speaking up now and is asking to end the conservatorship because she didn’t know she could before. And she wants her father, management, and conservators behind bars:

Ma’am, my dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship and my management who played a key role in punishing me — ma’am, they should be in jail. They’re working for Miley Cyrus as she smokes joints onstage at the VMAs — nothing has ever been done to this generation for doing wrong things.

But my precious body who has worked for my dad for the past 13 years, trying to be so good and pretty. So perfect. He works me so hard. When I do everything I’ve told in the state of California allowed my father — ignorant father — to take his own daughter, who only has a role with me, if I work with him, they’ve set back the whole course and allowed him to do that to me, that’s given these people I’ve worked for way too much control. They also threaten me and said, If I don’t go, then I have to go to court.

Britney admitted that when Paris Hilton came out about being abused at a boarding school, she didn’t believe the allegations. So because of that, Britney was afraid that nobody would believe her:

And maybe I’m wrong, and that’s why I didn’t want to say any of this to anybody to the public. People would make fun of me or laugh at me and say, “She’s lying, she’s got everything, she’s Britney Spears.”

I’m not lying. I just want my life back. And it’s been 13 years. And it’s enough. It’s been a long time since I’ve owned my money. And it’s my wish and my dream for all of this to end without being tested. Again, it makes no sense whatsoever for the state of California to sit back and literally watch me with their own two eyes, make a living for so many people, and pay so many people trucks and buses on the road with me and be told, I’m not good enough. But I’m great at what I do. And I allow these people to control what I do, ma’am.

She then let Judge Penny know her wishes for the future, besides getting out of the conservatorship without an evaluation and seeing her dad in handcuffs. She wants to sue her family and management for doing this to her. She wants control of her money. She wants to be able to go on a car ride with her boyfriend. She wants to be able to pick her own lawyer. She wants to go to therapy just once a week instead of twice as she does now. And she wants to get married and have a baby, but her conservators refuse to let her take out her IUD. This part is forty-five hundred levels of WTF:

I was told right now in the conservatorship, I’m not able to get married or have a baby, I have a IUD inside of myself right now so I don’t get pregnant. I wanted to take the IUD out so I could start trying to have another baby. But this so called team won’t let me go to the doctor to take it out because they don’t want me to have any more children. So basically, this conservatorship is doing me way more harm than good.

Britney ended by saying that she’s worked her whole life and deserves to do what she wants to do. You can read the full transcript at Variety and listen to it here. Below is a little clip of the end of her 20-minute testimony:

Judge Penny praised Britney for having the courage to speak out. Britney’s lawyer said that he will file to end the conservatorship once she asks him to, but she hasn’t done that yet. Judge Penny said that if that happens, they will start the process of holding hearings. And as for Daddy Spears….

After his own daughter slammed him for being an allegedly abusive Louisiana leech who should be making “Velveeta grits” using government cheese and crushed-up Corn Pops in a prison cell toilet, he said this through his lawyer:

“He is sorry to see his daughter suffering and in so much pain. Mr. Spears loves his daughter and misses her very much. “

I’m sure he said that while putting all of Britney’s stuff on eBay and Facebook Marketplace before the Brit Brit Money Train really stops choo choo-ing out money for him.
