Ellen DeGeneres Is Living At Courteney Cox’s House (But It’s Not What It Looks Like)

Ellen DeGeneres is a multi-millionaire who could probably just walk up to any old house on the street, pop open a silver briefcase stuffed with cash, and tell her assistant to inform the homeowners that she’s buying the joint. But that’s not what Ellen does when Ellen wants a new house. Ellen just sold the Beverly Hills mansion she shares with her wife Portia de Rossi for $47 million, and you would think that she and Portia could find something affordable on Airbnb for a week or two. But Ellen and Portia couch surf just like regular people, except her version of couch surfing is crashing at Courteney Cox’s mansion.

Courteney appeared on Thursday’s episode of Ellen to talk about the Friends reunion that has already shot. But they also talked about the fact that Ellen is now peeing in Courteney’s toilet and scamming Cokes from her fridge. And Ellen would like everyone to know that just because she’s crashing at Courteney’s place, it doesn’t mean her outgoing call history is filled with numbers to various Los Angeles divorce lawyers. via Page Six:

“I’m not having marital troubles,” the talk show host says on Thursday’s episode of Ellen. “I’m not living with Courteney Cox because I’m kicked out of my house.”

Courteney explains that she let Ellen stay at her house, because she hasn’t lived there in a year, so why not. Courteney has Friends money, so she clearly has more than one home. Also, she could be staying with her boyfriend Johnny McDaid, who she recently reunited with after not seeing him for at least six pandemic months. But the point here is, Ellen is living at Courteney’s house. And so is Portia. Or is she? Ellen said there was nothing to be suspicious about, and that she hadn’t been kicked out of her house. She also made sure to blame some bathroom messiness on Portia, but she did seem to imply Portia really wasn’t there long enough to do much damage at Courteney’s house. Courteney jokingly complained that she gave Ellen one side of her bathroom, and after being given a virtual tour by Courteney’s assistant, realized that Ellen had seemingly taken over the whole bathroom. Ellen responded:

“No, that was Portia who took over your side. I only have one side. And she happened to be there one night…Your makeup is still there, and it was just one toothbrush on that side.”

Ellen’s use of the word “I” instead of “we” is a little suspicious. Then again, Portia was around to help Ellen ring in the 3000th episode of her show last month. She even put her back into it and pushed out a giant table of cupcakes. Making Portia do hard manual labor like that after appendicitis surgery? Ellen, you demon!

Maybe the most reasonable explanation here is that Portia and Ellen are still very much together, but Portia needed a break for a bit. And it was probably an easy choice for Portia to make while they figure out their living situation, and Ellen pitched the idea of living at Courteney Cox’s house. “Excuse me? First, you drive me to the hospital high on CBD juice, and now you’re asking me to crash with a sitcom star? Ellen, no. I will not slum it like the girlfriend of some out-of-work actor. If I must, I’ll slum it at our $27 million Montecito mansion. Alone! It’s too cramped with the two of us there.
