Charo Speaks! Finally An Actual Spanish Person Weighs In On The Hilaria Baldwin Scandal

Good news! Someone has finally found a real live person from Spain willing to comment on Hilaria “Née Hillary” Baldwin’s identity crisis. Best news! It’s international superstar, flamenco guitar virtuoso, and dazzling Goddess of stage and screen Charo! Luckily for Hilaria, Charo’s as kind and generous as she is talented and sexy. Charo, who is not a member of Hilaria’s dubious Spanish “family,” told Page Six she thinks Hilaria’s put-on accent and seeming obsession with “everything Spanish” is funny. See, Charo gets it! Hilaria’s grift was a gift to the world.

Even though it seems like it happened a lifetime ago, it’s only been a month since Hilaria’s decade-long performance as Alec Baldwin’s Espicy Spanish Wife came grinding to a halt. In that time, Hilaria offered a number of explanations and equivocations that did absolutely nothing to explain her apparent charade, and Alec’s contributions to the situation were anything but helpful. And in all that time, not one single solitary Spanish person has come forward to claim Hilaria as one of their own. And certainly not Charo. But she does find it amusing.

“I spend all my life trying to speak English like you,” Charo told Page Six. “I hoped to [be] a sophisticated American and I was born in Murcia, Spain, where they have a very strong Castilian accent.”

“That’s Hilaria’s obsession, probably,” she continued. “I want to speak the best English because after so many years in America nobody knows what the hell I’m talking about.

“In the case of Hilaria, she must be [so] obsessed with everything Spanish — the tradition, flamenco — that she really went into that education and she managed to do it very well indeed.”

It’s really an astute observation. The American culture Charo was probably exposed to and wanted to be a part of, was probably superficial. And the Spanish culture Hilaria was probably exposed to was similarly so. As a young girl growing up in Murcia, Charo would have had America’s most glamorous movie stars and musicians to aspire to. And as a young girl growing up in Boston, maybe Hilaria got some really good Spanish dick one summer while visiting her parents in Mallorca (shh, don’t tell Alec, he probably thought he was marrying a virgen). Page Six says that overall, “Charo is ultimately a little perplexed, but bemused by the accent scandal” and she added:

“There’s nothing wrong if that makes her happy. I think it’s funny. In my opinion, it’s just funny.”

How right she is. Because really, the only casualty to date for Hilaria has been a brand sponsorship with Cutie’s Baby Care. And even with that, we don’t know if they parted ways with her because of the escandalo or if even Cutie’s Baby Care was like, “Jesus lady, enough with the babies already!

I do wonder though if Hilaria might have had better luck with it if she’d laid it on a little thicker. If she wants to spend this time offline working on that accent, she could do worse than take this little tutorial from Charo herself on pronouncing the Spanish “R” in a fun game she calls “REAL or NOT.” Come on Hilaria, we could always use a good laugh. Take a cue from Charo — Go big or go home!
