People Still Have Opinions About Kumail Nanjiani’s Buff Body

January 4, 2021 / Posted by:

Last year Kumail Nanjiani bulked up to prepare for his role as Kingo in Marvel’s upcoming film Eternals. He showed off his jacked bod on the socials, was briefly the face of PornHub’s “Muscular Men” category, and graced the cover of Men’s Health. He also talked about how his transformation triggered body dysmorphia. Well, if Kumail was struggling with body issues then, his last few days must’ve been hell, cuz the Internet attacked him the moment he posted the above picture to Instagram. Twitterers made fun of his muscles and jawline and accused him of abusing steroids.

Here’s Kumail’s Instagram post, which was just supposed to be about spending the holidays with Emily V. Gordon, his wife and co-writer of The Big Sick:

Here are a couple of examples of the tweets making fun of Kumail:

A bunch of people raced to Kumail’s defense, criticizing his haters for racism and body shaming. They questioned why nobody ever attacks other white Marvel actors like Chris Pratt, Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth for getting jacked or allegedly using ‘roids:

I don’t know shit all about steroids, except for the fact they make you super angry and shrink your testicles (according to a video they showed us in ninth grade Health class). Kumail has yet to comment on any of this. And, sure, he’s slowly Animorphing into Sly Stallone, but isn’t that the goal when you become an action star? However he did it, Kumail joins Adele in the people came for me when I transformed my body club.
