Felicity Huffman Already Has A Post-Prison Job Lined Up At ABC

A year after serving 11 days of her 14-day sentence at the Pinky’s Up Lite Lockup For Gentile Ladies Of Means, Felicity Huffman is ready to get back to work. According to Deadline, Felicity’s already landed her first post-conviction role in a pilot for a family-friendly comedy described as a “funny, surprising and occasionally heartbreaking half-hour about love, loss, family and Triple-A baseball” for ABC. Felicity will star (yes STAR, no more supporting role for Ms. Huffman, she’s more famous than ever) as “the unlikely owner of a minor-league baseball team” who inherits the team after her husband dies. I guess ABC is hoping that the only thing we remember about Felicity paying $15,000 to have someone fix her daughter’s SAT scores, getting caught, pleading guilty, and going to jail for it, was the adorable way she said “ruh-roh!” when she knew the jig was up.

Felicity Huffman is returning to acting — and to ABC — with a single-camera comedy that has landed a big pilot production commitment at the network. The Peanut Butter Falcon‘s Zack Gottsagen co-stars in the project from Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment.

Written by Becky Hartman Edwards, the untitled comedy is inspired by Susan Savage, the real-life owner of the Triple-A baseball team the Sacramento River Cats. It marks the first project Huffman has taken on since the 2019 college admission scandal.

The Emmy-winning actress has been heavily courted for TV series and pilots since she completed her short prison sentence after pleading guilty to fraud more than a year ago.

Somebody is probably holding Lori Loughlin’s dry and ashy prison hand right now as she weeps reading this news. After doing the very wrong thing, Felicity definitely did the right thing by copping that plea deal and keeping her reputation as an actress who “made a mistake,” unlike Lori who spent the months since Operation Varsity Blues broke bad solidifying her reputation as an entitled twat. Felicity is also lucky that her bread has been buttered by ABC for a long time now. They are probably more forgiving of public moral failings than the Hallmark Channel would be.

All three TV series Huffman has been a lead of have been on ABC and all have garnered critical acclaim: comedy Sports Night, dramedy Desperate Housewives and drama anthology American Crime. All three roles earned Huffman major award nominations; she won an Emmy for Desperate Housewives.

So while ABC obviously has faith in Felicity, we had yet to see if the general public is ready to forgive. I’d be a little more inclined to watch this show if they included Felicity’s checkered past into the concept. Just call it Sports Night For A Desperate Housewife Who’s Committed An American Crime: The Felicity Huffman Story and I’m in!
