Johnny Depp Lands Record-Breaking $20 Million Deal With Dior

Almost a year after Johnny Depp’s messy defamation trial against Amber Heard ended with a jury mostly ruling in his favor, Johnny’s scored a record-breaking deal with Dior for $20 million. That’s money well spent because who doesn’t look at current-day Johnny Depp and say, “I want to smell how he looks!”

Although the $20 million contract is a recent development, Johnny and Dior have been collaborating together since 2015- making parodies ads together for Dior Sauvage cologne where he shreds a guitar in barren desert land before leading a pack of wolves to nowhere…The campaign doesn’t exactly make you go, “J’adore Dior,” but somehow, in its aftermath, Dior has decided to offer Johnny the biggest men’s fragrance partnership ever to exist. According to Variety:

Sources peg the three-year deal at upwards of $20 million, which eclipses Robert Pattinson’s $12 million deal to serve as a spokesperson for Dior Homme and Brad Pitt’s $7 million pact to promote Chanel No. 5. A source familiar with the fragrance industry says most A-listers with fragrance deals pull in around $2 million-$4 million per year like Chris Pine, whose deal with Armani is valued at $4 million a year over 3 years.

While Johnny’s fans are excited to see him pick up the pieces after a dizzying PR disaster of a trial, others are confused about just what exactly a high-fashion brand like Dior has to gain from giving millions to a guy who isn’t exactly at the top of his career and perpetually looks like he’s late to Burning Man.

A few years ago, Johnny Depp claimed he lost $650 million he made from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and also owed $100 million in taxes thanks to his business managers fucking shit up. Not to mention all his legal fees from the Amber Heard and The Sun trials, so I guess that $20 million will put a dent into his debts. And on top of this Dior deal, Johnny’s “comeback” projects have included a cameo in Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty fashion show and a starring role in the film Jeanne du Barry. He’ll also direct Al Pacino in an upcoming biopic about Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani. And I’m sure he’ll make even more money when Dior signs him to another contract to be the face of their relaunched “We Should All Be Feminists” collection.
