Katy Perry And Lionel Richie Are Both Performing At King Charles’ Coronation

We’re only a few weeks away from the day King Charles receives his sash and flowers at his coronation, finally becoming the HBIC in the UK. And as an extra added bonus, his ride-or-die wife Camilla will also be in attendance for a crown of her own after Charles upgraded her to Queen status. To say this is one of the most “meh” moments in history would be an understatement, and many artists like Ed Sheeran and Adele have found other things to do with their time so as to not be attached to any of this madness. But Katy Perry and Lionel Richie either didn’t get the memo, or they just don’t care because they’ve both agreed to curtsy and kowtow before Chuck as a few of his musical guests for the big day next month. And yes, I guess Chuck had to import some of the entertainment for his big day.

People reports the day after Charles’ coronation ceremony on May 7; there will be a musical celebration taking place at Westminster Abbey.  Lionel and Katy have been selected to mark this momentous occasion with the gift of their voices, which is exactly the caliber of talent this ceremony deserves. Aside from their musical abilities, they’ve both known Charles for years and have worked with him through a few of his charities. So my guess is when nobody else wanted to play for his coronation, he probably blew their phones up every hour with a simple text that read “PLEEASE???!!!” Luckily for Chucky, the two of them would never turn down an opportunity to caterwaul in front of a crowd.

Perry, 38, and Richie, 73, are both judges on American Idol and have known King Charles for years. The “Firework” singer has served as an ambassador of The British Asian Trust, a charity co-founded by Prince Charles to tackle poverty and transform lives in South Asia, since 2020.

Meanwhile, the “All Night Long” hitmaker was appointed the First Global Ambassador and First Chairman of the Global Ambassador Group for The Prince’s Trust in 2019. Charles established the charity in 1976 to provide disadvantaged youth with the resources they need to reach their full potential. The organization states it has since worked with over one million young people — including Idris Elba as a teenage actor!

As Lionel and Katy prepare for this barely anticipated concert of convenience, they won’t be the only ones attempting to remove the hot air out of this stuffy affair. British group Take That will also be in attendance, probably singing Back For Good directly to Prince Harry as a not-so-subtle suggestion from his father. Operatic panty dropper Andrea Bocelli will also be there to sing Camilla’s crown off, as well as Sir Bryn Terfel, Freya Ridings, and Alexis Ffrench. This all sounds like a one-way ticket to Snoozeville, and not even Katy or Lionel’s catalog of dance hits could liven this crowd up. I can already see frowns aplenty as they try not to thrust their hips too much during All Night Long. And if Katy even attempts to sing I Kissed A Girl, they’d all faint and have her tossed out of the Abbey for such suggestive lyrics. Actually, if that happens, then I’ll definitely be tuning it.
