Robert Pattinson Will Be Suiting Up Again For “The Batman 2”
Well, this is embarrassing. Turns out that, despite my reservations and japing, the world really was clamoring for emo Batman! Deadline reports that director Matt Reeves and The Titular The Batman, Robert Pattinson, have both signed on for more pouting and skulking for a sequel, sadly not tentatively titled The Batman 2: Sonata in Darkness Boogaloo.
When The Batman opened in theaters in March, it broke records as the highest grossing film to be released since the pandemic began. It’s made nearly $760 million worldwide. And even more people have risked getting their eyeballs shredded to rags on Robert’s chiseled Batchin when it began streaming on HBO Max. HBO is also developing a series featuring Colin Farrell‘s Penguin character, further robbing eyeballs of the chance to live a quiet life, free from trauma and injury. In addition to Robert and Colin, The Batman also starred Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Penny. Robert Pattinson is the only one who’s signed on for the sequel so far. Deadline reports:
No surprise here: The Batman 2 is happening with Matt Reeves returning as director and Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group Boss Toby Emmerich announced today during the studio’s CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas.
The news comes at a time when the movie has clocked more than $760M around the globe and a viewership of 4.1M households on HBO Max in its first week. That topped the viewership of such Warner Bros day-and-date movies last year as Suicide Squad, Dune, Wonder Woman 1984 and The Matrix Resurrections. The Batman is Warners’ first theatrical-window release since Christopher Nolan’s Tenet in August 2020, after the studio adopted a pandemic theatrical day-and-date strategy its 2021 slate including December 2020’s Wonder Woman 1984.
Reeves took the stage briefly and said to the room of exhibitors: “Thank you all for your tremendous support for The Batman. We couldn’t have gotten here without the faith and enthusiasm of all your teams around the world. I’m excited to jump back into this world for the next chapter.”
I’m just picturing a team of lawyers flitting about trying to find a legal way to bar Robert, their most valuable asset, from going to Hawaii to either join or fight his Warner Bros. bro Ezra Miller. Ezra might be contagious, it’s best WB keep them in quarantine until they can figure out what is going on. Sorry, Hawaii! Maybe they’ll make it up to you by making some changes to the script and shooting The Batman 2: Cowl’s Up! on location.
