Jodie Turner-Smith’s Jewelry, Including Her Mother’s Wedding Ring, Was Stolen From Her Cannes Hotel Room
Variety says that on Friday, Jodie Turner-Smith’s hotel room in Cannes was robbed. She was staying at the Marriott on the Croisette (the fancy main drag), and, luckily, she was out for breakfast when the theft occurred. The robbers broke into Jodie’s room and stole jewels worth several tens of thousands of euros. They also swiped her mother’s wedding ring, which obviously had a ton of sentimental value. Goddammit, jewel thieves, have you no respect for family?!
Immediately after the incident, Jodie was moved from the Marriott to the Majestic hotel and provided with a large security detail who have been following her around ever since. Jodie’s in town with her 1-year-old daughter, Janie (sans daddy Joshua Jackson), so everyone’s extra-concerned.
This is Jodie’s first time doing the Cannes Film Festival. She’s there to promote her new sci-fi film, After Yang. Some think Jodie was targeted after wearing gold and diamond jewelry from the Gucci High Jewelry line to the movie’s premiere the night before the robbery. She’s the face of the brand’s latest campaign:

The theory is the thieves thought they’d find the Gucci jewelry in Jodie’s room, but she actually returned the pieces after the premiere. According to Cannes local rag Nice-Matin, there was no sign of forced entry and the investigation is still underway.
Jodie kept calm and carried on after the incident, continuing to make appearances and do interviews. She tweeted this on Sunday:

Her publicist confirmed to Variety that Jodie was at the police station to report the theft.
Apparently, Cannes is riddled with jewel thieves. In 2013 Chopard jewels worth $1 million were stolen from a safe at the Novotel hotel, followed by a $2.6 million diamond necklace at a party. A couple of months later the Carlton Hotel was hit by a record-setting $136 million jewel heist.
The whole “thieves clocked the jewels in pictures they saw online” reminds me of Kim Kardashian being held up by gunpoint and robbed of $10 million worth of jewelry in Paris back in 2016. So thank Yeezus Jodie and her baby weren’t in the hotel room when the robbers paid a visit. More evidence that breakfast is the most important meal of the day!
