Chrissy Teigen’s Team Claims That Michael Costello Faked Those Cyberbullying DMs

Upon entering the Valley of the Sphinx be prepared to answer riddles three. I’m not going to give you the answers because that would be cheating and I don’t need any more curses on my bloodline, thank you very much. But be prepared to explain who is the victim and who is the villain in the saga between Chrissy Teigen and Michael Costello, both of whom have been accused of bullying and harassment, and both of whom claim that direct messages implicating them have been fabricated. According to People, Chrissy’s “team” now alleges that the direct messages Michael shared earlier this week which show Chrissy threatening to have him blacklisted, are fake. Somewhere Alison Roman is cackling over a very real bowl of watery chickpea stew and loving every minute of this mess.

To recap, on Monday Michael, former Project Runway contestant and one-time designer to stars like Beyonce, claimed that in 2014, Chrissy bullied him and had him blacklisted from the industry in retaliation for allegedly having stolen work from a Black designer named Maxine James and calling her the N-word in an Instagram comment which Michael claims was faked. This was right after Chrissy apologized, once again, for her history of bullying people on Twitter. Subsequent to Michael’s claims against Chrissy, singer Leona Lewis came forward with charges that Michael refused to dress her in 2014, and makeup artist Jordan Liberty accused him of sexual harassment. Additionally, details about the alleged instigating incident with Maxine James have garnered renewed interest.

Now, in a Business Insider article, Chrissy’s team claims that the alleged screenshots of direct messages between Chrissy and Michael show “several temporal inconsistencies.” Sadly, as exciting as that sounds, no time portals are involved though I bet Chrissy would do just about anything for a chance to go back in time and clean up her pre-2016 Twitter feed. People reports:

In an article published by Business Insider on Thursday, a team representative for Teigen, 35, claimed the purported Instagram direct messages from the Cravings cookbook author in 2014 – which Costello, 38, posted earlier this week alongside accusations of bullying – are fake.

As the outlet noted, the screenshots showed several temporal inconsistencies that may suggest they had been altered in some way.

Examples include a missing verified checkmark next to Teigen’s name – which would suggest the screenshots were taken in 2014, before Instagram’s verification program had launched – in the same screengrab featuring purple and blue messages, a design implemented by the social media platform in 2020.

The screenshots also showed a video chat icon – something that was introduced on Instagram in 2018 – alongside a profile photo that Teigen had changed no later than 2016, according to Business Insider.

A representative for Costello did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Chrissy’s husband John Legend even had to drag his ass out from behind his Steinway to defend her on Twitter.

Michael is probably regretting his decision to throw himself onto the top of the Chrissy pile-on because even though her behavior over the years has been certifiably uncool, she’s still got deep pockets. And as a designer, Michael should know the importance of deep pockets are. And Chrissy’s are so deep, she even had President Joe Biden in one of them for a minute! Not even the great and mighty Dina Lohan has been able to silence her! Chrissy posted this literal sob story on Instagram after her most recent mea culpa.

Meanwhile, Michael’s Instagram page has been set to private. Fool didn’t know who he was messing with. Chrissy may have been a relentless pathological troll in the past, but never forget she now knows Oprah and been invited to The White House on MULTIPLE occasions. She’s basically Twitter’s version of Scarlett O’Hara at this point kneeling in a burnt-out field and, fists to the sky, lamenting “I will rise to tweet once more! God as my witness, I’ll never go thirsty again!
