Open Post: Hosted By Howie Mandel Wearing An Astronaut Helmet To Protect Himself From COVID-19

If you were in LA yesterday and spotted an astronaut prancing around a parking lot and giving double thumbs up to the paps, it wasn’t Buzz Aldrin on a bender. It was Howie Mandel on his way to a taping of America’s Got Talent. Howie has OCD and has been open about his fear of germs. It’s why he opted for fist bumps instead of handshakes on Deal or No Deal. Ahead of his time, that one. So now that Howie’s forced to go back to his job as host of a talent competition, he’s taking some over-the-top precautions to stay COVID-free. Or it’s a joke. I dunno. Either way, it’s extra straight man theatrics.

When Howie got to the set, he posed with AGT judge Heidi Klum, who was only wearing one single mask. Pfft, does she not take this pandemic seriously?! He posted the pic to his story:

A few days before that, he posted a video of him inside his new head:

I mean, the space helmet is intense but definitely less intense than his protection at the beginning of the pandemic; Naomi Campbell realness (a Hazmat suit):

And yeah, maybe it looks stupid (especially paired with those overalls… why?), but I’d rather celebs wear astronaut helmets than live their lives like it’s 2019. I’m so over hearing about these privileged Richie Rich-types traipsing off to tropical islands or throwing themselves pandemic birthday parties. We should all be looking to Mandel and his Sandy from SpongeBob Squarepants cosplay.
