Chrissy Teigen Has Said Goodbye To Twitter And Deleted Her Account

Prolific tweeter Chrissy Teigen has officially quit Twitter. Since this isn’t the first time she’s quit, you’re likely placing bets on how soon she’ll be back. But go ahead and put your money back in your wallet, because there’s a very good chance she’s really, really done with Twitter for good this time. Chrissy got some more hate recently, and normally she’d gleefully appreciate the opportunity to “clap back” until her palms were sore, but she really wasn’t feeling the hate, and yesterday, she decided to leave Twitter permanently.

In a series of exit tweets, Chrissy explained she couldn’t handle the amount of hate she was getting. She said she loved the time she spent on Twitter since 2011, and that she kind of owes her career to being an unfiltered, outspoken Twitter person, but that her current experience is pretty much non-stop negativity, and she’s over it. She also added that while a lot of people see her as this fearless bitch who is more than happy to meet her haters outside in the metaphorical parking lot, she’s not actually that person.

And it would appear that Chrissy really is done because this is what you get when you try to find her on Twitter now:

Of course, it is important to remember there is a difference between deactivation and deletion. When you deactivate your Twitter account, it sends a signal to Twitter that eventually all your old data should be deleted. But, if Chrissy were to have a sudden change of heart next week, she could reactivate her account and get her old tweets back. So this is probably not the end of @chrissyteigen.

But the mystery remains: what exactly happened to make Chrissy decide to leave? Chrissy didn’t get specific, although she didn’t really have to. We can kind of narrow it down. A few days ago, Chrissy launched a non-toxic cleaning product company with Kris Jenner called Safely. Some called it a shameless cash grab, since she’s a very, very rich person with a whole staff of housekeepers, and she likely hasn’t touched a cleaning product in years. Chrissy’s out-of-touch rich lady vibe hasn’t gone over well on Twitter before. Some people also took issue with Chrissy’s choice to launch a non-toxic cleaning product company, when her face, body, and armpits are no strangers to toxins and synthetic chemicals. Then again, Chrissy has also been a magnet for right-wing trolls, so really, it could be any reason. But if I had to guess, she probably got sick of people asking if Kris made her sign the contract in blood, or with the promise of 51% ownership of her soul.

It’s just too bad that Chrissy didn’t give us more warning that she was leaving. We could have arranged a very nice Twitter Retirement Party for her! After all, she did spend 10 years working Twitter like it was her job. You know, have some cake, tell some stories, take a walk down memory lane by celebrating all her old tweets (ok…maybe not all of them).
