Cardi B Is Billboard’s Woman Of The Year
The year is 2020. Kamala Harris is the first female American VP. Dolly Parton is on her way to curing coronavirus. Ruth Bader Ginsburg became a Supreme Court justice in heaven. But all those ladies can suck a WAP, because Billboard has named Cardi B THE Woman of the Year. The honour will be bestowed upon her at their Women in Music ceremony on December 10th. Past winners include Billie Eilish, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and Beyoncé. So yeah, it’s a “who sold the most albums that year” popularity contest.
This is the 15th annual event, and this year it’ll be virtual and hosted by Teyana Taylor. Billboard announced (via Billboard):
In a year unlike any other, Cardi B has continued to thrive with her Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper “WAP,” a brand-new Reebok collection and her political activism. And to wrap up a successful 2020, the rapper will be named Woman of the Year at Billboard‘s Women in Music event on Dec. 10.
The 15th annual event will go virtual this year due to the coronavirus pandemic and will stream live here starting at 8:00 p.m. ET. The ceremony, hosted by Teyana Taylor, will be sponsored by Honda and American Express.
But wait, there’s more Billboard Women in Music awards! J.Lo is the recipient of this year’s Icon Award. The Dua Lipa will receive the Powerhouse Award, “given to an act whose music dominated streaming, sales and radio this year”. Chloe x Halle will receive the Rising Star Award, and Jessie Reyez will get something called the American Express Impact Award. Finally, Ms. Dolly Parton has actually won something (other than our hearts). She’ll get 2020’s Hitmaker Award, which “recognizes a songwriter whose compositions have significantly impacted culture.” But Cardi beat them all. Wait, are the Billboard Women in Music awards sponsored by Birkin? Or Punani Dasani?
