My apologies to Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis for inserting an insufferable Gwyneth Paltrow-ism into what surely will not be a pretentious, new-age take on two formerly coupled humans staying friendly while continuing to parent their children. And I’m fairly certain there won’t be any bitter custody battles over the custom teak, professionally curated closet shelf weighed down with jade vagina eggs. But Olivia and Jason have ended things after nearly 10 years together.
According to People:
The Booksmart director, 36, and the Ted Lasso star, 45, have split, ending their engagement of more than seven years, PEOPLE has exclusively learned.
“The split happened at the beginning of the year,” a source close to the couple tells PEOPLE. “It’s been amicable and they’ve transitioned into a great co-parenting routine. The children are the priority and the heart of the family’s relationship.”
Olivia and Jason share two children from their 7-year engagement: 6-year-old son, Otis Alexander, and 4-year-old daughter, Daisy Josephine.
We’re all so accustomed to protracted, vitriol-spewing divorce and custody debacles like that of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, that it’s hard to believe a parting of the ways can be mature, friendly, and devoid of high-glamour accusations of extra-curricular messes, but here we are. People goes on:
In 2013, Wilde told Allure that she thought the Saturday Night Live alum “was so charming” when they first met, but said the actor “didn’t even get my number.”
“Over the next six months we kept running into each other,” she recalled. “[One night], my best guy friend walked up to him and said, ‘This is Olivia’s number. Use it.’ That was the beginning.”
Wilde told PEOPLE last year that having Sudeikis be a part of Booksmart, her directorial debut, was “great.”
“He’s one of the best improvisers in the world so I knew I could cast him,” she said. “He’s like spinning a top and just letting it roll. It’s really amazing to see him do his thing.”
Ex-princess Olivia was married to Italian prince/filmmaker Tao Ruspoli from 2003 to 2011. Jason was married to writer/director/producer/actress Kay Cannon from 2004 to 2011.
And about that “spinning a top” thing, let’s not forget about the happier times in their relationship, when Olivia and Jason would “have sex like Kenyan marathon runners.” Both had just emerged from previous marriages and their withered nether bits found earth-shattering new life in the shiny gleam of freshly single new love. And somewhere, Scarlett Johansson, Colin Jost, Emma Stone, and Dave McCary are mourning the loss of fellow members of The Hot Actress Who Got With A Dorky Guy From Saturday Night Live Club.
