Rosie O’Donnell Defends Ellen DeGeneres… But Still Won’t Go On Her Show

Rosie O’Donnell, former daytime talk show host, knows what it’s like to have all of America’s eyes (well, the eyes of stay-at-home parents, the elderly, kids home sick from school and people who have misplaced their TV remotes) on her. As a former Daytime Queen of Nice, Rosie has come out in support of Ellen DeGeneres, claiming that, after a while, the daytime television gig can get to you––especially if you’re trying to “fake your essence.” Hmmm…and yet nobody has come out with big-meanie accusations against Bonnie Hunt. So, what is the truth?

According to HuffPo, Rosie went on Busy Philipps’ podcast Busy Philipps is Doing the most Her Best and compared her own daytime experience to that of Ellen’s who, as you know, has been accused of being an unholy terror to members of her staff––and just about everyone else.

Rosie, whose own daytime talk show, “The Rosie O’Donnell Show”, debuted in 1996 and ran for six seasons, provided some context surrounding Ellen’s recent (though not surprising) string of bad PR, and gave her the benefit of the doubt:

“If you have a daily show, you can’t fake your essence,” O’Donnell said. “That’s why I have compassion for Ellen. I have compassion, even though I hear the stories, and I understand.”

“I think she has some social awkwardness,” she added. “It’s hard for women, period.”

Well, many have social awkwardness and don’t snap at a trick for making eye contact. Or bring people over to their house and have them run through a gauntlet of terrifying jump scares by members of their television crew. That sounds like the opposite of fun to a socially awkward person! And speaking of Ellen cackling with diabolical glee over scaring the asshole off guests, Rosie, who claims that she’s always been friendly with Ellen, says she’s never done Ellen’s show because she doesn’t want to die of a heart attack on Ellen’s floor:

“You know how Ellen surprises everyone?” [Rosie] said. “I’ve never done that show because I’m terrified she’s going to scare me and give me a heart attack.”

Besides, for someone who allegedly has social awkwardness, Ellen sure loves being invited to social events. And not only that, she will freeze a bitch DEAD––live and on-the-spot––if you don’t invite her to your social event (even if it turns out that Ellen WAS invited to said event and chose to skip it so she could hang out with a Bush at a football game…but ANYWAAAY).
