Disney World Is Cutting Its Hours Since Not That Many Tourists Are Going

Less than a month ago, the House of Mouse spit in the eye of God when they decided to reopen Disney World despite record-breaking coronavirus numbers in Florida. Even though Disney World went on about “enhanced health and safety measures”, they faced a lot of backlash from the public. Soon they had to ban eating and drinking while walking after visitors were seen doing so without their masks. Then, last week, one of the Splash Mountain log flume rides sank with guests inside. That last one has nothing to do with COVID-19, but it’s still a ridiculous Disney World fail.

Then, this past weekend, Disney announced that they were reducing their hours in September because of lower-than-expected attendance due to coronavirus. Um, duh?

Here are the changes, which will take effect starting September 8, via People:

The Florida theme park shared its revised hours on the Disney World website over the weekend.

The Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios are both losing an hour of operation at the end of the day. Meanwhile, Epcot is cutting back by two hours and the Animal Kingdom is losing an hour in the morning and an hour at the end of the day.

So, basically, Disney’s trying to save money by giving staff fewer hours and cutting back on operational shit like gasoline for Space Mountain and grease for all their creepy little animatronic animals.

According to USA Today, it cost Disney $4.5 billion just to close the parks back in March. The company lost another $5 billion from April to June when the parks weren’t open. Aw, I feel so bad for that $130 billion company. Hopefully, they’re getting their PPP loans!

Apparently Disney expected much higher attendance numbers when they reopened last month, but, alas Our Lady Corona continues to impact long-distance travel from out-of-state visitors who are canceling their trips. And that makes sense because in this economy, nobody can afford to pay $10 or whatever for a Mickey Mouse-shaped pretzel that you have to eat really fast in a corner so that some under-the-nose-mask-wearer doesn’t sneeze corona on it.
