Katy Perry Did A People Cover To Promote Her Upcoming Album And Baby

In a cover story for People, Ellen DeGeneres superfan Katy Perry says she has gone through it. The very pregnant Katy was forced to delay both her destination wedding to Orlando Bloom and the release of her new album, Smile (which has been rescheduled for August 28) thanks to that darn pandemic. And before that, Katy says she suffered through the “darkest years of her life” after 2017’s Witness didn’t sell as many copies as her previous record-breaking albums.
35-year-old Katy says:
“After being on a rocket ship and just going straight up, it was just a small change in the trajectory, but it felt seismic,” says Perry, who had also put her then-yearlong romance with Bloom on hold. “It’s been two-and-a-half years of trying to find my footing. It’s so easy for me to work, work, work and avoid, but I had to go on a mental and spiritual journey.”
Her lowest moments felt like a “nightmare,” says Perry. “You feel like you’re being attacked, and you can’t wake up.”
But Katy survived her ordeal, thanks to the support of loved ones, meds, therapy, and some shit called “the Hoffman Process”, which she did at a week-long spiritual retreat. Katy says, at times, her journey was “unbearable”, but she managed to “take the wheel back” (in this metaphor, her life is the car), and now she’s finally strong enough to handle horrors like her new album’s release date being pushed back two weeks:
“It got me out of this desperate loop of being the best pop star ever. I just really want to be a human being and have the dimension of life,” says Perry, who’s embracing a future filled with “family and love and laughing and coziness.”
Now, “I get to live life, and I get to bring life into the world,” she adds. “Finding the gratitude in this pain has been a real journey, but the outcome is worth it.”
Here’s the video of Katy’s interview and photoshoot, in which she talks about her relationship with Orlando, and becoming a new mom:
Katy also tweeted about her two “headlining moments”. The official People cover says that she’s excited about her baby (I know, what a scoop), but the cover she made says she’s excited for “My New Album Smile!” That headline about her album reads like she’s really excited about her new album smile (my guess is an “album smile” is a smile one gives on the cover of their album):
You can get the issue on stands Friday, or read the story on @people’s website at https://t.co/yLQhI3u1Am now for the first headline (🤰🏼) OR you can preorder the album to get the second headline (🙂) when it drops on Aug 28 at https://t.co/BImXF3kEcw! 💁🏼♀️ (2/2)

And well, Katy has really grown as an artist, because back in the old days, she’d be shooting whipped breast milk from her titties on that cover.
