Kelly Ripa’s Family Has Been Secretly Quarantining In The Caribbean

On May 5th, Kelly Ripa celebrated Cinco de Mayo by posting a very on-brand picture (aka being horny for her husband Mark Consuelos), and writing: “Call me crazy but I like Cinco de Mayo 2018 way better.” Kelly and Mark spent their 2018 Cinco in the Bahamas. Kelly’s caption might qualify as the understatement of the whole COVID-19 pandemic, because I’m pretty sure if you gave someone the choice between being in the Bahamas, or stuck inside eating quarantine rations, baking their 80th loaf of banana bread, and repairing the elastic on their face masks, they’re going to pick the Bahamas.

But it turns out Kelly was actually able to live her 2018 Cinco fantasy this year. Because People magazine is reporting that Kelly, Mark, and their kids have been quarantining in the Caribbean after getting “stuck” there during their spring break vacation.

The Ripa-Consuelos family decided to take a spring break trip to the Caribbean right as the COVID-19 pandemic hit North America and shut almost everything down. And much like Kristin Cavallari and co., they got “stuck” on vacation. But despite many businesses and services going into total lockdown mode, flights were still happening and out-of-country travelers were strongly advised to return to their home country. However, Kelly, Mark, and their three kids Michael, Lola, and Joaquin, continue to extend their vacation, because ABC reportedly told them to.

A source says that ABC – who broadcasts Live! with Kelly and Ryan – informed all their employees to shelter in place at the start of the COVID-19 lockdown in the middle of March. Since Kelly was somewhere in the Caribbean at the time, she took the request literally and stayed there. Kelly reportedly discussed her choice to hunker down in the Caribbean during an ABC virtual town hall. Kelly had this to say about it:

“We had planned a trip for our family, and it was supposed to be our entire family of course. And we arrive and three days later, the entire world changed, really. I mean, everything shut down; the government shut down; our country shut down. I hate to use the word stuck, but we were. We decided to stay where we were. Lucky for us, we had our three children.

And then, you know, it was supposed to be a two-week trip and we wound up going right back to work. Ryan and I both decided it was better to do the show, because we just felt like in with everything that was going on in the world that perhaps, some normalcy of just doing what we normally do, even though it was like in very unusual circumstances, would be the best thing for us.”

The source adds that Kelly described the situation as “distressing,” and stressed that people everywhere are, “unsettled.” True, but not everyone is unsettled with their hot husband in a Caribbean vacation home or resort.

Here’s the part that might be a tad shady on Kelly’s part. Kelly and Ryan Seacrest have been broadcasting Live! every day from the comfort of their own homes. And as far as anyone knew, Kelly was taping in her home in New York City. Why would people think that? Well, probably because Kelly’s makeshift studio looks a whole hell of a lot like just some random guest room in her house. She was also smart to cover up the only window in the room, because the sight of a palm tree swaying in the breeze definitely would have blown her cover.

Kelly has also talked about how difficult it has been to be quarantined with her kids, which again, kind of implied that they were all at home in NYC. People points out that on a recent episode of Live!, Kelly spoke about her son Michael’s graduation from NYU, saying:

“We’ve had some quarantine anxiety in our house lately, but I think that’s seeming more from my end of things. Because I realize that my firstborn, my firstborn child, is graduating from college in a couple of days and it’s definitely not what we expected.”

Her most recent Instagram post features a shout-out to Michael, on his virtual graduation day. As we just learned, their little impromptu quarantine graduation ceremony allegedly didn’t take place back at home in New York, but somewhere with crystal-blue waters and drinks with little citrus slices hanging off the rim.

It’s not like Kelly was lying lying about her current whereabouts. She never specifically said that she’s “in our $27 million townhome on the Upper East Side in New York City, New York state, USA.” But now that the alleged cat is out of the alleged bag, I wonder if Kelly is going to get honest with the Live! viewers about where she’s broadcasting from. I’m sure she’d love to. Kelly would love nothing more than to rip that piece of paper off the back window and spend a good 10-12 minutes of air time slobbering over Mark’s oiled-up pecs glistening on a lounge chair.
