As Always, “Live With Kelly And Ryan” Went All-Out For Halloween

In the event there is any confusion, I should point out that the Gomez to Kelly Ripa’s Morticia is her husband Mark Consuelos. That’s what you call extremely appropriate and very on brand. When else besides Halloween can morning TV’s horniest married couple dress up as TV’s spookiest horny married couple? Shockingly, no one made a “Wanna see my Thing?” joke. I guess 10am is too early for Halloween-themed boner humor on ABC?

It’s Halloween, which means every daytime show goes overboard in their battle for costume supremacy. Just like they do every year, the TODAY show did a big, boring group costume that will provide at least 800% less nightmares than they’ve inspired with past costumes. On the opposite end of the effort spectrum was Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest, who turned the Live with Kelly and Ryan Halloween show into a marathon of costume changes and wig-rotating. Live is only an hour long, and yet they managed to fit in tons of costume changes. Kelly and Ryan teased some of their costumes on Instagram yesterday.

E! News says the theme of this year’s show was viral moments. I wish I could say someone forced Ryan Seacrest into an unflattering egg costume. Instead he was forced into an unflattering Pugsley Addams costume. At least I believe he’s supposed to be Pugsley. Although because of that messy hairline he looks more like a “middle-aged Eddie Munster getting drunk on graveyard juice and trimming his own hair before a job interview.

They also dressed up as Katy Perry making up with Taylor Swift in her video for “You Need To Calm Down“:

Producer Michael Gelman recreated JLo’s 20th anniversary green dress stomp down the Versace runway:

Ryan and Kelly also did Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” and Ryan subsequently proved with his attempt at dancing that hosting a music competition for a million years didn’t teach him a thing about keeping the beat. They also filmed on the street with real horses, who were thankfully spared the indignity of the in-studio Party City fire sale extravaganza.

There was a Baby Shark moment, although they looked like Lisa Frank condoms:

Later on, they turned into roller disco Barbie and Ken, while guest Kal Penn was Taco Belle.

Easily the best part of the show was the audience costume contest, where first prize went to a guy dressed up as sock-eating dryer with a tongue that definitely got him a couple dozen DMs after the show.

At one point in the show, Kelly appeared as Regan MacNeil from The Exorcist, if possessed Regan was a YouTuber. While Ryan dressed up as Pennywise the Clown if Pennywise did YouTube beauty tutorials. That feels a little Gen Z specific for Live’s demographic? Maybe Ryan wanted to go with costume references his 24-year-old girlfriend would understand. Especially after he showed her last year’s daytime talk show costumes, and she said, “Oh yeah, my grandma loved those shows.”
