Gabrielle Union And Julianne Hough Are Not Returning To “America’s Got Talent”
Variety says that Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough will have to pack their dressing rooms and leave the NBC studios for good, because they have been fired from America’s Got Talent. Well they don’t use the word “fired” but LoveBScott says that Gabrielle, at least, was definitely given the boot because she wouldn’t stop talking about prejudices she saw at work.
Gabrielle and Julianne are definitely out, this much is for sure. But why they’re leaving is a bit more curious. Both women joined the panel this year but neither will make it to two seasons, as an NBC spokesperson confirmed they will not return for the 2020 season. The three dudes–Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel and Terry Crews–will all be back though, so even though a network source said that “judges are often cycled out and return later” it seems like the dudes don’t get “cycled out” that often… hmmm. Weird.
This year’s season finale of AGT had ten million viewers and was the night’s highest rated show in the 18-49 demographic. So it’s popping and apparently Gabrielle is a big part of that.
A source told LoveBScott that Gabrielle has been killing it on AGT, especially in the social media department. Apparently her engagement is so good that by the time the season ended, Gabrielle was the #1 talent on television in terms of social media engagement. Influencers sit the fuck down, Gabrielle could sell Tummy Tea for eons, okay? So it’s weird their most socially engaged media-wise celebrity would be leaving, right? Wrong. It makes sense since apparently racism is heavily afoot.
The NBC source told LoveBScott Gabrielle was fired for bringing to attention the problematic behaviors she witnessed at work, suggesting that women and black people get replaced “at Simon’s whim”. Here’s what they said:
“[Gabrielle’s] contract was not renewed after being the #1 talent on the show, NBC and network TV. She set the record for her Golden Buzzer. They only replace the women and blacks at Simon’s whim. She wouldn’t walk away from $12 million because she’s “busy”. Based on weekly interactions on social media, by the time AGT finale aired Gabrielle was the #1 talent on network TV for 2019. Why not pick up someone’s option in extreme success?… Social media engagement is the new measuring stick for talent and Simon isn’t on social media. Juliane and Gabrielle were both way higher ranked/engaged than Howie. The idea the network wants to “switch things up” only applies to women and Black folks…”
The source brought up Nick Cannon, who used to host and quit that bitch after saying that NBC was trying to “silence” him:
“Nick Cannon wasn’t crazy. He walked away from 8-figures over how [AGT] operates.”
So Gabrielle got the boot because she was too mouthy about the discriminatory environment, which isn’t really detailed but use your imagination:
“Let’s just say they didn’t start the racism, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia etc. in season 14. They were quite comfortable with it all by the time Gabrielle got there. Remember Nick said “NBC stands for Nigga Be Careful”.”
