Scarlett Johansson Still Really Loves Woody Allen

July 2019: Scarlett Johansson provides the internet with material for years when she responds to casting criticism by defiantly claiming she should be able to play any character, even a tree. Thus subsequently making trees the butt of many, many jokes.

September 2019: All those poor trees finally catch a much-needed break when Scarlett opens her mouth and gives the world a new reason to roll their eyes. And that reason’s name is Woody Allen.

We’re at a point in Woody Allen’s history where you’re very likely to find someone who doesn’t want anything to do with him. But there are some actors who refuse to believe what Dylan Farrow has alleged many times, and are sticking by Woody. Like Javier Bardem, or Alec Baldwin, or Diane Keaton. Scarlett Johansson has worked with Woody Allen three times (Scoop, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and Match Point). She defended him from the allegations back in 2014, and was seen having dinner with him last year.

Scarlett recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about her upcoming films Marriage Story, Jojo Rabbit, and Black Widow, but she also spoke about Woody Allen. Woody claims he’s never going to retire, which is good news for Scarlett, because she’ll absolutely answer her phone if he calls.

“How do I feel about Woody Allen?” Johansson lets the question hang for a moment. “I love Woody. I believe him, and I would work with him anytime.”

That’s a pretty big statement to make for someone who spoke so passionately at the Women’s March last year and was allegedly one of the earliest signers of the Time’s Up announcement letter. But apparently the only thing time wasn’t up on was her love for Woody.

THR pointed out that in a post #MeToo world, her stance on Woody doesn’t look great. Well, Scarlett would like you to know she has talked to him a lot about the allegations against him, and he said he didn’t do it, and that’s good enough for her. And people might be coming for Woody because things need to be “stirred up.

“I see Woody whenever I can, and I have had a lot of conversations with him about it. I have been very direct with him, and he’s very direct with me. He maintains his innocence, and I believe him. It’s hard because it’s a time where people are very fired up, and understandably. Things needed to be stirred up, and so people have a lot of passion and a lot of strong feelings and are angry, and rightfully so. It’s an intense time.”

Scarlett was also asked about the comments she made after she decided not to play a trans man in Rub & Tug. Scarlett responded:

“There’s other voices that have more to say on this subject that probably need a microphone. Yeah. I think I’m done speaking on that subject.”

I bet Woody is about to treat Scarlett’s publicist to a really nice, fancy dinner to show his gratitude. I’m sure her publicist would have had 400% less headaches this week if Scarlett had chosen to pull her “no comment” card on Woody. Don’t worry Scarlett, he’ll take you out next week.
