Javier Bardem Is Still Standing By Woody Allen
In April, Javier Bardem admitted during an interview that he had doubts about Dylan Farrow’s allegations against Woody Allen. Javier added that the only way he’d stop working with Woody is if there was evidence proving that Woody is a creep of the highest order. Javier worked with Woody on Vicky Cristina Barcelona, a movie in which his wife Penelope Cruz ended up winning a Best Supporting Actress Oscar. So clearly Woody has some kind of special, weird place in his heart. A heart that probably has received many messages from the brain asking, “Are you sure you want to keep that creep Woody around?”
The answer is, yes, Javier does! The Hollywood Reporter says Javier touched on his working relationship with Woody during a master class he gave at the Lumiere Festival in Lyon, France. According to Javier, he really didn’t have too much contact with Woody during the filming of Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and at some times he wasn’t even sure if Woody knew who he was. But Javier knew who Woody was and he was very well aware of the allegations against him. And Javier didn’t care, because the New York Department of Social Services dropped their investigation on Woody in 1993.
“At the time I did Vicky Cristina Barcelona, the allegations were already well known for more than 10 years, and two states in the U.S. deemed he was not guilty. If the legal situation ever changes, then I’d change my mind. But for now I don’t agree with the public lynching that he’s been receiving, and if Woody Allen called me to work with him again I’d be there tomorrow morning. He’s a genius.”
But will Javier actually work with Woody again? Woody is reportedly taking a bit of a break from movies, and his latest film is stuck in release date limbo. But still, even if Javier does, of course he’s excited about it. There’s the chance that he’ll get to make out with Scarlett Johansson again. Sadly, that ain’t happening. The list of guys who will still work with Woody is basically Javier and Alec Baldwin now, and you know Woody usually needs at least a 25 year age gap between his male and female lead. Sorry Javier.
