Patti LaBelle Says She’s Ready To Date At 78
People reports that Patti LaBelle went on Jennifer Hudson’s talk show on Tuesday and revealed that she’s open to dating at age 78. Gentleman widowers, dust off your boner pills! A hot new bombshell has entered the villa…
Jennifer was the one to bring up romance. She straight-up asked, “You open to dating?” Patti answered, “Well, sorta kinda. How old am I, 78?” After the audience’s cheers died down (hey, Patti looks great!), she continued, via People:
“I was married for 32 years to a wonderful man and we’re still friends, good friends,” she said. “So I think in life I need to find happiness for myself, other than what I had back in the day with him, which was wonderful. But I’m too good to be solo,” LaBelle added, to resounding cheers from the audience.
Patti was married to Armstead Edwards from 1969 to 2003. He started out as a schoolteacher, but then worked as her manager until 2000, the same year they legally separated. They share one son, 49-year-old Zuri, and three grandkids. It’s unclear if Patti’s dated anyone since her divorce, but, when Jennifer asked if she used dating apps, she wasn’t familiar: “What’s that? What are dating apps?” Jennifer explained, and Patti replied, “Oh, that stuff. I’ve seen that commercial.” Her statement delighted this audience member, who’s rocking that ’70s orange-brown aesthetic:
Patti waved off all that dating app talk, and finally revealed that she “has a nice person in mind.” Oo, a crush! But Patti won’t reveal his name, cuz that’s her “personal business.” Jennifer quickly agreed: “Yes, ma’am! Moving on!” Here’s the dating talk clip, and another of her singing with JHud:
Clearly, Patti’s crush has changed her view on romance, cuz, as recently as 2021, she told People she had no interest in dating. She said she was living her life “like it’s platinum,” lucky enough to have lots of people who cared for her, and happy to live alone with her dog, Mr. Cuddles. Sorry, Mr. Cuddles! You might have to share Mommy Patti with a new man soon. Don’t worry, he’ll never be as handsome as you are in that little orange sweater:
