John Legend Wants To Clear Up His Original Thoughts On His Friendship With Kanye West

John Legend has had a change of heart in regard to his original comments about his friendship with Kanye West. Last month, John decided to go against the Holy Grail of Hollywood by actually speaking the truth about another celebrity when he mentioned he and Kanye are no longer as close as they used to be. Although John gave an explanation that the rift came after Kanye’s ill-fated presidential run most outlets ran with the story as “JOHN HATES KANYE!“, and he wants everyone to know that’s not the case at all. In fact, he’s still open to the friendship, but Kanye has to make the first move.

In a recent interview with The New Yorker (via People), John discussed his previous comments about Kanye, but he wanted to make a few things clear. It’s evident that John, like most of the world, misses the old Kanye but he doesn’t want anyone to think there’s any ill will between the two of them. So now he’s doing a slow Moonwalk back to his piano to conjure up a remix to his earlier comments, tossing a bit of blame at a few different media outlets who took what he said and created a false narrative about their friendship.

“Yeah, what it got described as was, we stopped being friends because he supported [Donald] Trump, which was a mischaracterization of what I said,” Legend explained. “That was kind of the Rupert Murdoch version of the story — it was all over the New York Post and Fox News.”

“What I was saying was that he was very upset with me that I didn’t support him running for President, and that was the real impetus for us having a strain in our friendship.”

Honestly, I’m not sure exactly how Fox News made it seem any different, but that’s what I understood from what he said. I’m sure if people on the Titanic knew it was going to sink they would have never hopped aboard, and this is the same thing because why go down with a sinking ship? The entirety of his previous interview boiled down to the chorus from Big John’s “I Don’t Fuck Wit CHUUUUU,” so I was content with whatever he said. But clearly, John didn’t appreciate the response he received from his candor, so he wants everyone to know he’s not completely done with Kanye. Just as long as Kanye is willing to grab his beaded wig and perform an updated version of Reunited, he’s open to it, but Kanye has to be the one to initiate the reconciliation.

“I don’t know what will happen in the future, but he was very upset with me that I didn’t support him and I supported Joe Biden. It’s up to him whether he can get past that.”

Legend said that although he doesn’t think political views “should be everything in your relationship,” he does “believe that certain things you believe in are indicators of your character, and obviously that will affect your friendships.”

I hope John doesn’t need to speak on this again because there’s no need to keep defending what he said. However, I don’t think Kanye will change anytime soon. Plus with his ongoing crusade against people who have done him wrong, I doubt he has time in his busy schedule to rekindle old friendships.
