Britney Spears was released from her almost 13-year-long conservatorship back in November. And obviously, Britney can take her time deciding what her next step will be. She’s already revealed that she’s writing an alleged $15 million tell-all that will no doubt have the rest of the Spears family biting their nails down to sore little nubbins. There have been rumors that Britney’s celebratory version of “I’m going to Disneyland!” would be “I’m going to Oprah Winfrey’s house to film a tasteful two-part interview special!“, but that hasn’t materialized as of yet. Six months after the official release of Britney from her conservatorship, there hasn’t been the big interview that many might expect. Well, if Britney is still deciding on who she might like to sit down and chit-chat with, Drew Barrymore has thrown her metaphorical hat into the ring and made it very clear she’d love the honor.
Drew recently spoke to Variety about going into the third season of her fully-enjoyable daytime talk show The Drew Barrymore Show, a place where she’s spoken about Britney Spears numerous times in the past, usually during her Drew’s News segment (not surprising, considering Britney has been in the news quite a bit over the past three years). Drew recently discussed Britney, after Britney posted on Instagram that one of the two people to ever leave her speechless was Drew herself (the other was Kate Hudson). Drew gushed over Britney, saying she was so proud of her for telling her story in that upcoming book, with Drew adding that she has so many profound feelings towards Britney Spears. Clearly, Drew is a fan!
During Drew’s interview with Variety, she admitted that she hasn’t asked Britney on the show, but did say that she’d really like to have an “openhearted” talk with her sometime, based on their shared experience of being famous at a young age, then dragged through the press for being a perceived “mess,” then evolving and growing and having the chance to clear up the narrative a little.
“We can have a unique conversation,” she says. “There’s not a ton of us out there who have publicly lost our freedom, had breakdowns in front of everyone, become punchlines and fought our way back.”
This does make sense. Like Britney, Drew is familiar with spontaneous marriages and tabloid magazine covers and toxic family and spending her teenage years in the spotlight. But it’s up to Britney whether or not she wants her first real one-to-one to be with the woman who used to get horny for Darth Vader.
