Billie Eilish Will Reportedly Headline Coachella, Possibly Replacing Travis Scott

Travis Scott was dropped from the Coachella 2022 lineup after ten people died during the Astroworld crowd crush in November 2021. They could have replaced Travis with a cassette of Haunted House sounds and probably not gotten a single complaint. But instead, he’s reportedly been replaced with apathetic Gen Z favorite Billie Eilish.

Travis was reportedly pulled from the Coachella lineup about a month after the Astroworld tragedy, and according to sources, his agent fought hard to keep him on the bill. There was no official announcement that Travis was wiped from the schedule, but a source tells TMZ that it’s unlikely he’ll show up on stage any time during the weekends of April 15 to 17, and April 22 to 24. And again, there’s been no official confirmation of this news, but that source tells TMZ Billie is a go for the vacant headlining job.

Billie Eilish will fill a headliner spot at this year’s Coachella – making her the second out of three names – and a big question mark for Travis Scott’s status with the festival.

A source with knowledge tells us Eilish has signed on as one of the event’s big names for 2022. 2020’s edition had Frank Ocean, Rage Against the Machine and Travis Scott as the three headliners before it was canceled because of COVID-19.

Coachella’s 2020 lineup was originally pushed from April into October over concerns about health and safety. When COVID revealed she was 2020’s only headliner, Coachella 2020 was canceled, and they looked forward to 2021. But again, COVID decided to establish a daily residency in our lives, and Coachella 2021 was canceled as well. TMZ’s source believes that Coachella was trying to get the headliners from 2020 back, but that isn’t really working out so well. Travis has been reportedly let go, due to the giant meteor of bad press following him around. Frank Ocean has reportedly committed to the 2023 festival, and Rage Against the Machine is reportedly out for 2022 as well. One of the empty headlining spots has allegedly been filled by Swedish House Mafia, aka the guys behind that song that haunted mall dressing rooms in 2014.

January is usually when Coachella releases their official list of artists and headliners, so it probably won’t be long before we see who agreed to headline after this two-year-long game of musical chairs. Having Billie as a headliner makes sense, considering she’s a multi-Grammy-winning artist who isn’t busy either of those Coachella weekends. Billie kicks off her Happier Than Ever World Tour, which begins in February and ends in California exactly one week before Coachella begins. Convenient! Although Billie might need some help winning the crowd over, in the event she really is stepping in and taking Travis Scott’s place. I’m sure there will be some very pouty Travis Scott fans in that audience. Billie might want to avoid the typical crowd work call-and-response of asking the crowd, “How are y’all doing!?” unless she wants a bunch of people to holler back, “Pretty bummed out, I really wanted to see Kylie’s boyfriend tonight.”
