Open Post: Hosted By Kyra Sedgwick Talking About The Time She Pushed A Panic Button In Tom Cruise’s House

We’ve heard previous tales of what it’s allegedly like to attend a shindig thrown by Tom Cruise (which is to say, it can allegedly get weird). And this here is a story about a shindig that happened at Tom Cruise’s house, where things did get weird, but in this case, the awkwardness had nothing to do with Tom. Instead, it was Kyra Sedgwick, who was invited to a party at Tom’s house in the early 1990s and ended up having the place surrounded by cop cars because she started randomly touching things in his house.

Kyra was on The Drew Barrymore Show this week and said that once in the 90s, she attended a party at Tom’s house and she was invited because she became friendly with him after filming Born on the Fourth of July together. Other guests included Kyra’s husband Kevin Bacon (who had been filming A Few Good Men with Tom), as well as their A Few Good Men co-star Demi Moore and her then-husband Bruce Willis, A Few Good Men’s director Rob Reiner, and Tom’s then-wife Nicole Kidman. Kyra explained that she really didn’t get invited to parties like that, and so she got curious and started exploring around Tom’s house and ended up touching a little button under a fireplace mantel. via HuffPo:

“It was one of those nights that I often don’t get invited to, and so there was this, like, fireplace mantel and I was looking around and there was this little button underneath the mantel. A little button. I was like, ‘Oh, what is that little button?’ So I pressed the little button because I just thought maybe something interesting will happen. Nothing happened and then I got a little nervous. I was like, ‘Oh, nothing happened that doesn’t seem right.’ So I tapped Tom on the shoulder, who was in the middle of a story, and I said, ‘I pressed this button down here.’ And he was like, ‘You pressed that button?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, I pressed that button.’ And he goes, ‘That’s the panic button.'”

The police were automatically called. Kyra says that about five police cars then roared into Tom’s driveway, and Tom was forced to explain it was a mistake.

I think one major detail being left out of Kyra’s story was exactly which panic button she pressed. Because Tom allegedly told her it was “the” panic button. But there’s no way Tom just has one. I assume there have always been two manic buttons in his home. The “Uh Oh Time to Panic” button, which calls the cops. And a super-special Scientology panic button, that Tom can press if someone asks the kind of question that would truly have him panicking for an answer. Like, “Hey Tom, you seen your daughter lately?“. I assume the button would immediately dispatch David Miscavige, who would whisk in and relocate Tom to a safe room, where he’d stroke his hair and whisper, “Shhhh….sleep, sweet prince, there are no suppressive persons who can hurt you in here.
