Ellen DeGeneres Has Lost 1 Million Viewers Since Her Toxic Workplace PR Disaster

The Ellen DeGeneres Show used to be the titan of daytime talk. 63-year-old Ellen DeGeneres‘ non-spicy, non-threatening comedy was really hitting the spot for a lot of people. But that funny lady’s bad dancing has lost its shine for a lot of people. One million of them to quantify it. Ellen’s talk show became the center of a PR nightmare with allegations of workplace harassment and Ellen issuing an apology for her toxic show and even fired three senior producers. Now viewers have ditched Ellen like The OC after they killed off Marissa Cooper. Good thing she signed all those deals with Discovery about animals and nature. I think that working with fewer humans might be good for her.

Ellen’s show was hit with stories about the shitty treatment of employees and allegations of sexually predatory producers. The premiere of Ellen’s current season was actually the highest-rated episode in four years, but after everyone watched her crap apology about the allegations, the viewers never came back.

The New York Times reports that according to Nielsen, the show used to average 2.6 million viewers. In the last six months, it’s dropped to 1.5 million. The show’s core audience of women under 54 fell by 38%, and ad revenue lost 20% of its value going from $131 million to $105 million. But don’t think this means that the people at Warner Bros. are gonna turn their backs on Ellen. The show’s been renewed for next year and David McGuire, an executive vice president of programming at Warner subsidiary Telepictures, tells The New York Times:

The Ellen DeGeneres Show remains one of the top three highest-rated syndicated talk shows this season… While broadcast is down across the board and COVID has been challenging for production, we are looking forward to bringing back our live audiences and a 19th season filled with all of the hilarious and heartwarming moments that have made Ellen one of the longest running and most successful talk shows in history.”

“Across the board” is not really accurate, because the Times said Ellen‘s 43% drop in viewership is a steeper drop than any competitor series has experienced. She’s now only 100,000 viewers ahead of Maury Povich when she used to be pulling in Live With Kelly And Ryan numbers.

Ellen’s wife Portia de Rossi is currently recovering after getting her appendix removed, and Ellen joked about it yesterday on Ellen, via Too Fab:

“I rush her to the ER, and we’re driving and she’s in so much pain, and I’m worried about her, and I don’t know what’s wrong with her because, as you know, I grew up Christian Science. So my best guess was … a demon?” Ellen said.

Cleary, Ellen made a deal with a demon to make her show successful and that demon has come to collect and possessed Portia’s body to get that message to Ellen. That’s obviously what happened. Ellen better sacrifice a virgin or whatever to get her ratings back up!
