Katie Couric Hosted A “Parent Trap” Reunion

July 20, 2020 / Posted by:

Because there’s nothing else going on during this never-ending pandemic hellscape, Katie Couric hosted a throwback Zoom reunion of The Parent Trap. Ahem, the The Parent Trap *remake* from 1998. Not the 1961 original. That particular reunion would consist of 74-year-old Hayley Mills talking to a mirror, because most of that cast is dancing to “Let’s Get Together” in heaven.

Here’s who showed up: actors Lindsay Lohan (wow, what a get!) Dennis Quaid, Elaine Hendrix, Lisa Ann Walter, Simon Kunz, director Nancy Meyers and writer-producer Charles Shyer. Since network television is totally over, it was hosted by Katie on her Instagram page.

Here’s the fourteen-minute reunion in honor of the film’s 22nd anniversary. Watching it will help somehow raise funds for the non-profit World Central Kitchen:

After chatting with @nmeyers during an IG Live – we decided that we should try and see if we could pull off getting the Parent Trap gang back together again for the first time since 1998 — and guess what, we really did it!!!@lindsaylohan, @dennisquaid, @lisaannwalter, #SimonKunz, and @elaine4animals join writer-director @nmeyers and writer-producer #CharlesShyer to share their memories from filming, reenact their favorite scenes and discuss the film’s lasting impact. PS: With COVID-19 continuing to ravage the globe, we all decided to use this reunion as an opportunity to raise awareness and funds for @wckitchen – @chefjoseandres organization that is helping feed those in need all across the world. I’m thrilled that they included blonde gold digger Meredith Blake, played by iconic 90s bitch actress Elaine Hendrix (see: Superstar’s “My titties!” Evian and Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion’s fashionista popular girl Lisa Luder). All Meredith wanted to do was ship those red-headed brats off to boarding school so she could pluck (her perfectly arched eyebrows) and fuck (daddy Dennis Quaid) in peace!

The other blonde star of the film was, of course, Natasha Richardson, who played Lindsay’s mother. She passed away tragically in 2009 at the way-too-young age of 45 after a skiing accident in Quebec. The actors reminisce about how lovely and giving Natasha was, and how she’d “swoon” whenever she talked about husband Liam Neeson, who she referred to as “my Liam”. Awww.

But most of the reunion consists of everyone mooning over how talented an 11-year-old Lindsay Lohan was, and how easily she beat out other young actresses for the roles. Nancy says some of these actresses later became movie stars, and Wikipedia confirms she’s definitely talking about Scarlett Johansson. Hmm, the lady claims she can play a tree, but loses dual twin roles to Lilo? Weak, girl.

At one point Lindsay and Dennis re-enact one of their dad-daughter scenes in the film, which I found very sweet until I remembered Lindsay is 34, and 66-year-old Dennis just married a 27-year-old. So, yeah. Ruined it for me. Ruined it for you.
