Reese Witherspoon Says Her 2013 Arrest Was “Embarrassing”

April 18, 2020 / Posted by:

It’s not often we get video proof of celebrities acting like dummies with the law, but Oscar-winning American Citizen™, Reese Witherspoon, gave us one for the ages back in 2013 when her and husband, Jim Toth, were pulled over for doing some fucked-up driving in Atlanta. Reese, despite not being asked by the cop to get out of the car, got out of the car, readjusted her Zooey Deschanel wig and in a soft, yet pointed voice, blurted out some “do you know who I am?” nonsense.

As we know, Jim was arrested for DUI and failure to maintain a lane while driving and Reese was charged with disorderly conduct. Well, Reese is opening up about the fiasco and, needless to say, she’s no longer Laura Jeanne “THIS IS BEYOND” Poon. Well, not when a recording device is around anyway.

Yes, Reese continues to earn her paycheck as this month’s spokesperson for turning-lemons-into-lemonade because People is reporting that she made an appearance on Friday’s episode of Jameela Jamil’s podcast, I Weigh with Jameela Jamil, in which The Good Place actress asked her about her infamous run-in with the law. After Jameela jacked Reese off for her initial apology, Reese admitted she acted dumb:

“You apologized and shamed yourself in a way that was so fucking refreshing to me,” Jamil said. “I loved your apology.”

Witherspoon replied, “But I did something really stupid.”

“It was so embarrassing and dumb,” the Oscar winner continued. “But, you know what — [it] turns out I breathe air. I bleed the same way. I make dumb decisions. I make great decisions. I’m just a human being.” Witherspoon added, “We’re all just the same as each other and we’re all trying to find what our special skills are. My special skill is storytelling but that doesn’t mean I’m a special person.”

Yes, Reese has remained relatively unproblematic ever since, and I get that people are fragile and complicated creatures, but the “dumb decisions” comment is no excuse for that movie she made with Sofia Vergara!

If you want to check out the entire hour-long (gah!) interview, you can listen here. But in the meantime, celebrity fuck-ups, like celebrity deaths, tend to come in threes. So, with DraperDressGate still in the rearview mirror, you might want to wait and see if any more nuggets fall from that high road Reese is currently traveling on (don’t worry, I don’t think her husband is driving).

And here’s one of the original arrest videos:
