Taylor Swift Says Kanye West Is “Two-Faced”

Taylor Swift appears on the cover of Rolling Stone’s October issue looking like a teen girl who shoplifted a Morphe palette from Sephora so she could attempt to successfully recreate a Euphoria makeup tutorial she saw on YouTube (not a terrible look, I’ll admit). But that’s not the face we’re talking about here. We’re talking about the face – or rather, faces plural – of Taylor’s enemy-turned-friend-turned-enemy again, Kanye West.

Taylor was asked by Rolling Stone’s Brian Hiatt to explain the situation around that phone call. The phone call in which Kanye called Taylor to ask for her blessing on a specific lyric in his song “Famous“. Taylor claimed she never gave Kanye permission, to which Kim Kardashian responded by leaking a recording of Taylor sounding like she was definitely giving permission. Taylor explains that the situation is more complicated than the snake emojis would lead you to believe.

Taylor says that the world didn’t know the context of things leading up to the phone call. She says she was really sick of the dynamic she shared with Kanye, which started back in 2009 when he yanked her moonman away at the MTV VMAs. She says all she ever wanted was his respect, and she was really happy when she thought she had gained it several years later. Taylor and Kanye were going out for dinner together, and it seemed like they were new BFFs. In 2015, Taylor presented her good friend Kanye with the Video Vanguard Award at the MTV VMAs. When Kanye took the mic for his acceptance speech, he accused MTV of pulling some publicity stunt antics by choosing Taylor to present the award. Taylor says it wasn’t like that at all.

“He called me up beforehand – I didn’t illegally record it, so I can’t play it for you. But he called me up, maybe a week or so before the event, and we had maybe over an hourlong conversation, and he’s like, ‘I really, really would like for you to present this Vanguard Award to me, this would mean so much to me,’ and went into all the reasons why it means so much, because he can be so sweet. He can be the sweetest. And I was so stoked that he asked me that.

And so I wrote this speech up, and then we get to the VMAs and I make this speech and he screams, ‘MTV got Taylor Swift up here to present me this award for ratings!’…And I’m standing in the audience with my arm around his wife, and this chill ran through my body. I realized he is so two-faced. That he wants to be nice to me behind the scenes, but then he wants to look cool, get up in front of everyone and talk shit.”

She goes on to add that Kanye wanted to talk to her after the show in his dressing room, but she refused to go because she was so upset. Kanye must have realized he fucked up, because Taylor says he sent her a “big, big thing of flowers.” So she decided to forgive him and move on. That’s why she answered the phone when he called to ask about the lyric in “Famous” where he suggests he and Taylor might have sex. But Taylor was mad when she heard all the lyrics to “Famous,” like when he said the words, “I made that bitch famous.” Which brings us to today, 2019, a time when Taylor likes Kim and Kanye about as much as a stale, unfrosted, store-bought sugar cookie.

If you think Taylor is being petty, well – she is, yes. But she also claims to have a reason to hold a grudge. According to Taylor, Kanye also exposed his two faces to Drake. Drake claimed last year that the only reason any of us found out about his secret son was because he told Kanye in confidence in an attempt to get some advice for how to deal with his son’s mother. Kanye allegedly lent a sympathetic ear, but then reportedly used his mouth to blab about it to anyone who would listen, including Pusha T, who exposed Drake on the track “The Story of Adidon.” Taylor says:

“He gravely affected the trajectory of Drake’s family and their lives. It’s the same thing. Getting close to you, earning your trust, detonating you. I really don’t want to talk about it anymore because I get worked up, and I don’t want to just talk about negative shit all day, but it’s the same thing. Go watch Drake talk about what happened.”

Taylor and Drake have been friends for a while, so he probably won’t mind that she dragged him back into this mess.

It’s a good thing Taylor was so thorough in her takedown of Kanye’s phony friend ways, because you heard it from her – she really doesn’t want to talk about it anymore! So this will probably be the end of it, and we’ll never, ever hear Taylor whine in a magazine interview about Kanye ever again. Kanye hasn’t responded to Taylor yet. But I have a feeling he won’t be the first from his family to do so. Usually Kim beats him to it, possibly because she’s got an internal alarm system that alerts her to an opportunity for drama and attention. I can already picture her statement…

“I have to defend by husband from the defamatory statements made by Taylor Swift, in which she accused Kanye of being two-faced. Kanye isn’t two-faced. He has one face. And I should know a thing about different faces, because I’ve had several.“
