Open Post: Hosted By Joaquin Phoenix In The Trailer For “Joker”

It looks the next season of HBO’s Crashing is going to be a bit darker than seasons past. In the first trailer for Todd Phillips’ standalone origin story, simply called Joker, Joaquin Phoenix stars as Arthur Fleck, a down-on-his-luck comedian who despite the occasional set back/beat down, doggedly pursues his dreams of stardom. If, from what you’ve read of him, you’ve already pictured Joaquin looking wrung out in saggy, grey tighty whities dancing alone in his bathroom, then there won’t be anything new to see here. Also appearing in the trailer are Frances Conroy as Arthur’s probable future matricide victim, Zazie Beetz as a woman who should have swiped left, and Brian Tyree Henry as Suspicious Black Man #1.

Arthur, take it away!

I’ve got one question for Joaquin: Why so serious…ly skinny! Mother fuckin’ yikes, my dude. Somebody needs to start adding animal products to American Spirits so Joaquin can put down the smokes for a minute and eat an Impossible burger or something. That said, I’m digging the gritty 1980s New York City vibe, and when Joaquin put those grubby fingers in that boys mouth I gagged. Like literally.

According to Screen Rant:

Phoenix, unsurprisingly, is dedicated to the role, promising to deliver an unhinged and captivating turn as the iconic villain. This, of course, is a character many have played before, and Phoenix will in all likelihood be up for the challenge of following their footsteps.

In case you’re wondering, Jared Leto didn’t go down without a fight. Apparently he went ahead and filmed his own Joker movie trailer.

Damn, Joaquin’s Joker may be creepy, but Jared’s Joker is positively horrifying.
