Mel Gibson has said some heinous things, made some heinous threats to former partners and saluted the kind of people that make a reasonable person cringe with an embarrassing amount of disgust. And yet! With all that, Mel has been as successful at getting canceled as my Proactiv subscription from 2001 was (which is to say, I was receiving it well into Obama’s first term). Mel keeps working. He’s got the sequel to The Passion of the Christ, and Hot Seat with Britney Spears’ fiancé, and now he’s just been named as the director of Lethal Weapon 5. That’s how uncancellable Mel Gibson is. He’s able to resurrect a franchise that pretty much everyone assumed was dead after Lethal Weapon 4.
Johnny Depp Says Cancel Culture Has Gone Too Far As He Accepted An Honorary Award At A Film Festival In Spain
Johnny Depp, who is currently gobbling up the attention of his many fans on the European film festival circuit, has some complaints. For one, cancel culture has gotten way out of hand. And another thing, why is nobody standing up for those who have been wrongly judged in a court of law? And how about these greedy soulless corporate movie studios who have no respect for THEE ARTIST? All this was asked as Johnny accepted the honorary Donostia Award at the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain in opposition to Spain’s Association of Female Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media (CIMA) who protested the decision to honor a court determined “wife-beater.” So watch out CIMA, like Johnny said, “no one is safe” from cancel culture, not even women. He should know because it’s happened to him!
