Britney Spears Spoke Out Against TMZ’s Documentary About Her

On Sunday, Britney Spears’ husband, Sam Asghari, railed against the “disgusting” media, her conservators, and the then-upcoming TMZ Investigates: Britney Spears: The Price of Freedom doc for allegedly spreading lies and putting Britney’s story into the hands of others. The doc aired on Monday, and Britney herself finally weighed in yesterday using her signature modus operandi of a shouty, stream-of-consciousness Instagram post, crowning TMZ the “trashiest news channel for news.”

USA Today says the documentary special alleged all of the information that TMZ had been teasing on their site (and we’ve mostly all heard already) in the lead-up to it airing: Britney’s mental health is fragile and worrisome, she’s been violent with Sam and their marriage is twirling the bowl, and she’s estranged from her sons.

“Britney Spears: The Price of Freedom,” which aired on Fox May 15, alleges Spears’ mental health is turbulent, she poses a physical danger to herself and Asghari and she hasn’t spoken with her children Sean Preston Federline, 17, and Jayden Federline, 16, in over a year.

TMZ’s documentary featured interviews with Dr. Charles Sophy, Dr. Drew Pinsky, Kevin Federline‘s attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan and reporters from TMZ, who relayed information from unnamed sources. The physicians have not treated Spears.

Yesterday, Britney cracked her Insta-knuckles and started by posting a video of her and Sam grabbin’ and tonguin’ (damnit, right in front of my salad?), presumably in an effort to refute the allegation that their marriage is in shambles:

Later, she went all Louisiana on TMZ and the media’s asses for their treatment of her all these years. And as always, she had a lil’ something for Daddy Jamie Spears, too. She also said she hopes to be able to tell her own story, though it may take a long time. So, does that mean her juicy memoir won’t be coming out later this year or at all after finally securing enough paper?

“The concern and just effort on TMZ’s part of being the trashiest news channel for news,” Spears wrote. “These men who I have no idea who they are, are talking about me as if they have any right at all to do so.”

She continued: “The media has always been cruel to me and most people probably wouldn’t even comment on it but I do think some people might believe this and I care.”

Spears said she thinks “some people are wanting to hear my story” but that it may take her “a year, maybe longer” to put it out herself.

Here’s her whole post; take a drink every time you hit an exclamation point. Just kidding! Don’t do that, you’ll die:

The question remains: what is holding Britney back from telling her story? If she’s a free woman, she could easily skip one month of buying “sexy damsel” crop tops and paying Sam his allowance to secure a production team and pick up where 2005’s Britney and Kevin: Chaotic left off. “Britney and Sam: Calamity” seems appropriate!
