Elon Musk Welcomes Trump Back To Twitter

Twitter continues its march into hell with the billionaire-cum-pathetic memelord Elon Musk at the helm. Having led a disastrous effort at making verification available for anyone then quickly taking that away once everyone roasted him for it, battling dangerous Elon Musk impersonators like Kathy Griffin, and firing practically everyone at Twitter for not being “hardcore” enough, Elon is still trying to make his version of a free speech Twitter happen. Apparently, his vision of truth and honesty includes bringing back former president and stable genius Donald Trump onto the platform. Everyone can finally log off Truth Social!!!!

Elon has been toying with bringing back the disgraced president onto the platform ever since he took over. Trump was kicked off Twitter in early 2021 after a bunch of his very reasonable supporters stormed the Capitol and made a mess of the place (amongst many other terrible things). Twitter believed Trump had a hand in stoking the violent act and thusly booted him from the platform. Since then, he’s taken refuge in Truth Social, an actual social media site that wasn’t just made up! Every now and then, screenshots of his musings end up on other social channels, but for the most part, Trump’s rantings and ravings have been limited to the 35 people on Truth Social. However, this peaceful era may soon be over now that Elon has decided to open up the world’s stupidest Pandora’s Box and let Trump loose again. How did he come to this momentous decision? Maybe he convened with experienced moderators and sagely discussed the pros and cons of letting Trump back on? No. He used the robust, scientific survey tool that is the Twitter poll! He’s such a great businessman. AP reports:

Elon Musk reinstated Donald Trump’s account on Twitter on Saturday, reversing a ban that has kept the former president off the social media site since a pro-Trump mob attacked the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, as Congress was poised to certify Joe Biden’s election victory.

Musk made the announcement in the evening after holding a poll that asked Twitter users to click “yes” or “no” on whether Trump’s account should be restored. The “yes” vote won, with 51.8%. Previously, Musk had said Twitter would establish new procedures and a “content moderation council” before making decisions to restore suspended accounts.

With 51.8% voting yes and 48.2% voting no, it’s somewhat fascinating to see that Twitter users weren’t clamoring to see Trump’s account reinstated. Surely Elon wasn’t using the poll as a cover for a decision he had already made by himself! One would think that after being invited back onto his favorite site, Trump would’ve immediately launched into a tweet-based treatise on the subject of haters vs. losers. Still, embarrassingly for Elon, he isn’t biting.

And on Saturday, during a video speech to a Republican Jewish group meeting in Las Vegas, Trump said that he was aware of Musk’s poll but that he saw “a lot of problems at Twitter.”

“I hear we’re getting a big vote to also go back on Twitter. I don’t see it because I don’t see any reason for it,” Trump said. “It may make it, it may not make it,” he added, apparently referring to Twitter’s recent internal upheavals.

Shockingly, instead of making you the coolest guy ever, $44 billion just buys you the disdain of all the people you want to impress. Now it’s only been a day, so we may shortly be treated to Trump’s familiar stream of half-formed thoughts and tirades on Twitter. And with Trump officially running for the 2024 candidacy, I’m simply thrilled to be living in 2016-2020 aaaalll over again!
