Open Post: Hosted By Jamie Lee Curtis Reminding Lea Michele That She Hasn’t Won A Tony

Broadway’s newest Funny Girl and enemy of the people, Lea Michele is riding high after all the positive buzz around her assumption of the lead role. Rumors swirled for some time that Lea would take over from Beanie Feldstein, who unfortunately wasn’t really winning over audiences with her interpretation of Fanny Brice, and after years of work and multiple voodoo curses, Lea finally got the role of her dreams. With scalpers making a mint on Lea’s upcoming debut, it’s safe to say that she’s probably loving every minute of attention. But with that attention comes criticism (and not just from former Glee co-star Samantha Ware). Jamie Lee Curtis (huh??) shaded Lea in Jamie’s podcast, Good Friend. The clip is from 2021 but it’s never too old for a gold ole’ fashioned Lea Michele diss. Jessica Lange knows what I’m talking about!
In addition to being a well-known terror, Lea is also a well-known theater kid and has a few Broadway plays under her belt. One of which is the widely acclaimed Spring Awakening. The play opened in 2006 and became a surprise hit, winning multiple awards throughout its run. It was even memorialized in the HBO documentary Spring Awakening: Those You’ve Known which followed the original cast as they reunited for a one-night-only performance 15 years later. Lea was the first to play the role of Wendla Bergmann and, needless to say, has a big head about her involvement. The show received 11 Tony nominations but Lea was not nominated.
Jamie Lee Curtis invited Lea and her bestie/personal vagina inspector Jonathan Groff to her podcast Good Friend, where Jamie invites people to talk about their friendships in a “totally unscripted” way. (Note the word “unscripted.”) She explored Lea and Jonathan’s relationship which began during Spring Awakening rehearsals. Jamie then asked how the show fared at the Tonys which led to this exchange:
JLC: And was the show nominated, also?
LM: We won eight Tony awards.
JLC: Yes, you did, but you didn’t Lea.
Here’s the audio:

HA! Damn, all that Activia did something to Jamie! And Jonathan’s booming laugh after Lea gets knocked down a peg is the icing on this cake. I don’t understand why Jamie roasted her like that but I’m not complaining. Nothing like another movie star to tell you that you ain’t shit. Somewhere out there, Beanie is listening to this part of the podcast and yelling, “Yeeesss! Get her, Jamie!”
