The Creators Of An Upcoming Biopic Want Lily James To Play Anna Nicole Smith

Okay, so the good news is that another biopic is in the works about the tragic life of icon Anna Nicole Smith. And I’m not implying the bad news here is that it might star Lily James (I would never put out such pessimistic energy towards a project about my beloved misunderstood bimbo angel). All we know so far is that The Daily Mail believes that there’s a chance Lily James will once again be bringing her best 90s bubbly blonde bombshell energy in a biopic that might have people once again admitting, “Huh, well what do you know – I guess she does sort of pull it off.

A few months ago, it was reported that there is currently a biopic in production about Anna Nicole Smith (previously rumored to be played by Betty Gilpin), and Anna’s therapist (played by Holly Hunter) called Hurricanna. That project isn’t this project. It also isn’t the Anna Nicole Smith documentary that’s currently in the works over at Netflix. The Daily Mail reports this is a separate project that was created by two friends of Anna Nicole Smith, Patrik Simpson and Pol Atteu, who want to do justice to their friend’s legacy. And according to Patrik and Pol, that means hiring a SAG Award-winning actress like Lily James to become Anna Nicole. via The Daily Mail:

Talking to The Mirror, show producer Patrik admitted that he had reached out to the actress, dubbing her “brilliant”. He told the publication: “Lily is amazing…everything she does is brilliant”, hinting that she could be set to take on the role.

Describing the actress they are looking for, Patrik added: “She needs to be tall, beautiful, animated and jump off the screen” while Pol said that the main this is “they have to embody Anna-Nicole’s spirit.”

I believe they also need to be able to deliver the line, “Want a Viper? Want some money?” with the same passion as Anna Nicole did when she was accepting that Trimspa check, but I might be getting picky with the details here.

But Patrik and Pol might want to cross-reference their casting notes just a bit, because I already see an issue with them choosing Lily James. Anna Nicole Smith was a gorgeous big-tittied Amazonian beauty that clocked in at 5 foot 9 inches (not including hair height, which would definitely throw her over the top of a six-foot register). According to the internet, Lily James is clearing a modest 5’5. So right away, their claim that their prospective actress “needs to be” tall kind of kills Lily’s chances. But that might not be the dealbreaker that’s breaking this deal. The Daily Mail reached out to Lily’s rep, and they had no comment on whether or not she had anything to do with this project.

Lily recently starred as Pamela Anderson in Hulu’s Pam & Tommy, so she might be done playing 90s blondes who were done dirty by the media (Anna Nicole Smith never really got the media narrative re-write that others have, as she died of a drug overdose in 2007). Whoever does portray Anna Nicole really just needs to have one skill, and that’s the ability to deliver a performance miles better than whatever we saw in Lifetime’s 2013 biopic. Oh, and also to effectively suppress their gag reflex whenever they have to kiss the actor has been placed in barely-alive liver-spotted rich old man makeup as her husband J. Howard Marshall.
