Open Post: Hosted By Hong Kong’s Snooze Bus

Are you one of those people who immediately falls asleep anytime you’re on a plane, train, or automobile? Then get your ass over to Hong Kong, cuz the geniuses at ulu travel have figured out a way to take your cash and put you to sleep. Their new double-decker “Snooze Bus” tour is 5 hours and 47 miles long, and passengers are meant to use the time to get some precious slumber. Let’s hope nobody’s a sleep farter!

Kenneth Kong, the marketing and business development manager of ulu travel explained the genesis of the idea, via Huffington Post:

“When we were brainstorming new tours, I saw a social media post from my friend saying that he was stressed out by his work, he couldn’t sleep at night.

But when he was traveling on the bus, he was able to sleep well. His post inspired us to create this tour that lets passengers just sleep on the bus.”

Tickets cost between $13 and $51 per person (depending on if you want a seat on the upper or lower deck), and ulu provides a goodie bag with an eye mask and earplugs. The first tour was this past Saturday, and it completely sold out. The bus stopped a few times so passengers could take touristy photos on Lantau Island. But I’m gonna guess a lot of people just slept through that shit.

One passenger, Anson Kong, suffers from insomnia. Another, Marco Yung, says he always falls asleep on long bus rides, so he figured it was a “great opportunity” to catch some Zs. Dr. Shirley Li, a sleep researcher, explained:

“People in Hong Kong don’t have enough time to sleep,” Li said. “That’s why we have to kind of use other times to sleep, which is our daily commute, especially when we are travelling on public transport.”

“For some people, they may tend to associate public transport with their sleep. And that’s why they found it easier to fall asleep on the bus,” she said.

Here’s a video of Snooze Bus:

I would hate Snooze Bus. The only way I can fall asleep is if I’m in my bed, lights out, fan on. I’ve never slept on a plane, train, bus, or car, and that includes the time my parents drove straight from Ontario to Florida when I was ten. By Georgia, I had lost my mind and was moaning and kicking the ceiling of our van. We had to stop at a Cracker Barrel so I could calm down and play that little triangular peg game. Whew. Wild times.
