John Mulaney Is Dating Olivia Munn Now

Just four days it was reported he was getting a divorce, People magazine is now saying that John Mulaney and Olivia Munn are currently dating after meeting at church. John has had a pretty exciting week for a guy who looks like his biggest thrill is switching the refrigerator ice maker from cubed to crushed. On Monday we learned that John, fresh off a 60-day rehab stay for alcohol and cocaine addiction, decided he wanted to get divorced from his wife of seven years, Anna Marie Tendler. Anna Marie released a statement about the divorce, in which she made it clear it was John’s decision, and that she was “heartbroken” over it. Anna Marie might want to hide her phone and take the weekend off with a couple of close friends because this news probably isn’t going to help the situation much. A source close to 38-year-old John tells People that he and 40-year-old Olivia met at a church in Los Angeles and that it’s a very new relationship:

John Mulaney and Olivia Munn are dating, a source close to the couple confirms. “This is very new, they’re taking it slowly,” a source close to Mulaney adds. “They met at church in Los Angeles.” Reps for the two could not be reached for immediate comment.

What kind of church did they meet at? John has mentioned in his stand-up that he grew up Catholic, but they are both famous people, and this church service happened in Los Angeles, so my Hillsong and City Church radar is pinging pretty hard. But Mieka also suggested that they could’ve met at a Scientology service. And if that’s the case, then this story has officially driven straight off rails and into the wrong side of the freeway. Then again, I don’t remember hearing anything about John praising the miracle workers at Narconon in his recent return to stand-up comedy. So who even knows what kind of church this is.

Page Six adds that Olivia has been into John for a long time. They both met each other socially several years ago at Seth Meyer’s 2013 wedding and remained friendly with each other. And in 2015, during an interview with HuffPost Live, Olivia made it know she was really into John, even if he was engaged to Anna Marie at the time:

“We were at a wedding together and I was like ‘Oh my gosh, do you and your fiancé want to go have dinner or something and go hang out?” she said. “At first it was cool, and then I kept going up to him at the wedding like ‘So, you having fun?'” she said. “I was just so obsessed with hanging out with and talking with him.”

Munn added that she emailed the then-engaged comic but he never emailed back. “I might’ve got the wrong email – probably. That’s what I tell myself,” she said.

She also gave him a shout-out back in December, when it was reported that he’d checked into rehab:

It’s not often a tweet is able to serve as both support and an open-door invitation for the future. But as mentioned above, neither of their reps have confirmed anything, so this is all hearsay for now. I’m sure one day they’ll go public with it. And I’m sure that if it’s short-lived, it will end better than some of her previous relationships. Like the ex-boyfriend Olivia dated, who she suggested on a podcast was secretly gay because she didn’t think he was good in bed. If Olivia decides to imply the same about John after they break up, he’ll likely respond: “Me? Gay? Yeah, you know what, probably.”
