Katy Perry Bitch Slaps Social Media Via Social Media
Hot on the heels (no, not Tom Cruise’s sizzling-hot heels) of Chrissy Teigen finding her way back to social media after a dramatic Twitter flounce that lasted all of 22 days, Katy Perry, 36, took a moment out of her busy day explaining the farting noises of her latex dress on American Idol to inform her more than 100 million followers that social media totally sucks, and that we’re all, like, doomed.

What may have triggered the timing of her pithy little droplets of doom is anyone’s guess, but maybe she grew restless after the spangly glitter of performing at the presidential inauguration for Joe Biden after awkwardly promoting her pro-Trump father’s “non-partisan” clothing line.
It’s kind of alarming to think of her tens of millions of devastated pubescent worshipers overflowing with “Slaaayyyy Queeeen” and not having anywhere to type it, should Katy ever decide to go all Teigen on them; but without the “I can’t quit this bitch and am addicted to likes, but will pretend it’s all about the fans and my obligation to them” re-entries into Satan’s crowdsourced diary, aka social media.
This isn’t Katy’s first time at the “social media is killing us” rodeo. According to E! Online:
It’s unclear if anything in particular sparked Perry’s tweets. And considering she’s one of the most followed stars in the world, her posts may surprise some fans. In fact, digital consumer intelligence company Brandwatch recently reported Perry’s Instagram account secures the top 20 spot for most followers, and her Twitter account is the third most followed.
However, Perry has shared these sentiments before. In 2017, for instance, she tweeted she “can’t wait till Instagram culture is over so we can all be ourselves again.”
“A lot of us are living for that picture, and then the currency is the like,” she also told Refinery29 in 2018. “It’s hard because I’d rather not care about that and just live my life. We buy clothing and products or pose a certain way or go to an event to get a picture—it’s not good for us as a society. I think it’s actually the decline of civilization if we’re going extreme about it. We have to find a balance, and I’m trying to find my own personal balance with it because I’m just as much a victim as everybody else.”
“Victim” is a pretty strong word, but she’s not wrong. Who among us couldn’t regale the world with our own harrowing tales of being held hostage by a ragey touchpad and forced to post bunny-filtered bathroom selfies while shilling shady “nutrition” products, or just barfing up random, moronic thoughts that need all the filters but never get any of them?
