Open Post: Hosted By This Embarrassing Pre-Pandemic Tattoo

Listen, I’ve seen some dumb tattoos in my time. One of my friends has an ankle tat with the word “improv” written into an infinity sign that is also somehow an anchor. Because… improv comedy anchors him? Forever? I dunno. Back in high school I seriously considered getting a giant Buffy ‘B’ (thrilled to say I chickened out). But neither of those are as bad as what Kentucky resident Leah Holland got permanently inked on her arm. In response to a viral TikTok video asking, “What is the dumbest tattoo that you’ve ever gotten?”, Leah revealed the unfortunate tattoo she received on March 4, 2020. It reads: courageously & radically refuse to wear a mask. Oh nooo, Leeeaah!

In the video, poor Leah explains:

“I’d wanted it for a couple of years, it basically means like, be true to yourself and real, and not pretending to be something you’re not.”

Alas, the meaning completely changed just weeks later. And if Leah was someone like Gina Carano, maybe that wouldn’t have been an issue. But in the comments, she wrote: “I’m not anti-mask I promise.”

Here are some more pics of the tweet:

And a local news report that features an interview with (a masked) Leah:

Leah said she was initially ashamed of the tattoo and tried to hide it by wearing cardigans year-round. But she learned to laugh about her choice and doesn’t regret it. That’s a nice way of looking at it, but if I were Leah, I’d def get that shit lasered off. Or, at the very least, turn the word ‘a’ into the word ‘no.’ Then you’re indisputably pro-PPE!
