Priyanka Chopra Says She Lost Work After A Doctor Messed Up Her Nose During Surgery

Priyanka Chopra has a new memoir that was released this week, titled Unfinished. As you’ll learn from this story, that’s the title of her book, and also the word you might use to describe the work done on her nose by an allegedly careless doctor. And according to Priyanka, there was not one, but two film producers who believed her post-surgery nose was so wrecked, they couldn’t possibly even begin to imagine putting her face on the big screen.

For a lot of people, the way 38-year-old Priyanka looks now is pretty much how she’s always looked. But if you’re from India, then the Priyanka you know might more closely resemble the Priyanka who won the 2000 Miss World pageant.

After Priyanka won Miss World, she was cast in several Bollywood films. She writes in her book that around the same time (about 2001), she developed a head cold that wouldn’t go away and chronic breathing issues. When a doctor checked it, they discovered a benign polyp inside her nose and it needed to be removed. That sounds easy enough to do, but apparently, the doctor decided to offer Priyanka a 2-for-1 special that day by removing the polyp, as well as part of the bridge of her nose. When she woke up from surgery, the polyp was gone, and so was the nose she had when she showed up for surgery that day. via Insider:

“Fortunately, a polypectomy sounded like a pretty routine procedure. Unfortunately, it wasn’t,” the actor wrote in her memoir.

Chopra Jonas said the doctor “accidentally shaved the bridge of my nose and the bridge collapsed.” When the surgery ended and she looked at the result, she said, she and her family were “horrified.”

“My original nose was gone. My face looked completely different. I wasn’t me. Every time I looked in the mirror, a stranger looked back at me, and I didn’t think my sense of self or my self-esteem would ever recover from the blow,” she added.

Not only did Priyanka’s closest loved ones notice, but so did the general public and the press, who began calling her, “Plastic Chopra.” Eventually, the news of her new nose got back to producers of four movies she had signed on to. Priyanka claims that producers from two movies heard her new face looked nothing like the face that showed up in auditions, and she was dropped ASAP. Her role in the third film was significantly cut to a supporting character. The fourth kept things as is because they didn’t care that Priyanka looked different.

Priyanka says that after several corrective surgeries, she’s got the nose that’s on her face, and that she’s made peace with it. She also adds she was constantly pressured to explain how her nose went from this-to-that, but she decided her job was entertaining, not serving as a cautionary tale about plastic surgery. via ELLE:

“I was dared to give an explanation for the obviously different nose, but I chose a course then that I’ve followed in all the years since. I decided that there was a line I was going to draw in my life. I am an entertainer. That’s what I’ve signed on to do, and that’s what I love doing..just because I’m a public person doesn’t mean everything about my life has to be public knowledge. I get to choose what I share and when I share it.”

Now that she’s comfortable enough to share her plastic surgery stories, she really sharing them. Because later in her memoirs, she also gets into the time a director suggested she get her tits and ass done to “fix” her body proportions. via HuffPo:

“After a few minutes of small talk, the director/producer told me to stand up and twirl for him. I did. He stared at me long and hard, assessing me, and then suggested that I get a boob job, fix my jaw, and add a little more cushioning to my butt. If I wanted to be an actress, he said, I’d need to have my proportions ‘fixed,’ and he knew a great doctor in LA he could send me to. My then-manager voiced his agreement with the assessment.”

She doesn’t say whether she went through with all those extra surgeries, but it’s likely she didn’t. Because it’s not like an early-career Priyanka was billed as the second coming of JLo in the butt area. But it sounds like she’s very comfortable in her body, and secure in her decisions not to blow a bunch of cash on plastic surgery. Because it’s a cycle. It’s never one procedure, it’s a bunch of tweaks and tucks. Honestly, also a wise decision for her wallet as well. You can’t spend endless amounts of cash on multiple weddings if all your money is going directly to Dr. Miami.
