Surprise! Halsey Is Pregnant
I guess Halsey didn’t hear that the pandemic’s hottest celebrity baby-based trend was the secret quarantine baby. But good for her for spilling the news before she spilled her water all over a hospital floor. It’s nice to give your friends a couple of months notice, so they’re not scrambling to find tiger-print diaper covers or a jewel-tone satin receiving blanket set that won’t get tied up in pandemic shipping hell (I’m personally still waiting for makeup brushes that I ordered before the Halloween candy hit the store shelves). But while Halsey’s friends are doing that, we can dissect her pregnancy announcement.
Halsey announced her big baby news on Instagram today with three pictures from a maternity photoshoot, in which she can be seen showing off her belly. She captioned the post with a baby bottle emoji and a little angel baby emoji. Two weeks after that baby is born, 26-year-old Halsey will realize that a more accurate emoji might be the poop, followed by the drowsy-looking smiley who could definitely use a nap. But the bottle will do for now.
Congratulations to Halsey, who is finally able to tell her nosier fans, “Yes, NOW I’m pregnant.”
The Daily Mail points out that some people started speculating on a possible pregnancy last week when she was seen running errands in an oversized shirt. Halsey has been pretty open about her reproductive health as well. Last year, she told The Guardian that she had previously suffered a miscarriage. In the liner notes for her album Manic, she shared that her song “More” is about her struggles with endometriosis, freezing her eggs, and whether or not she could have a baby at all. As for the father, you can stop picturing a Mini Evan Peters. Halsey and Evan started dating toward the end of 2019, but they’re no longer together. Just Jared writes that the father is screenwriter and producer Alev Aydin (Halsey tagged him in her pregnancy announcement). It’s not really known when they got together, but Just Jared mentions they were both seen together buying paint back in October. In Touch writes that they were seen at a Lakers game together in March 2019, so they’ve obviously been friends for a while.
As for that pregnancy Instagram post. There might be people who think it looks like a no-budget Beyoncé Baby Announcement, as inspired by Mariah Carey in the “Heartbreaker” video, what with those stonewashed jeans and crochet halter. And I would agree, but not in a shady way. Halsey is giving me exactly the type of pregnancy announcement I need in these pandemic times. The fabric behind her hasn’t been ironed and it’s just clipped haphazardly to a frame. And you can see someone’s hand holding the fabric behind her. It looks like it cost $10, and in this economy, that’s what I want.
