Adele Wrote On Instagram That She’s Single

Okay, but has anyone told poor Skepta this news?!

In less time than it takes a sloth to blink, we’ve gone from a story about Adele and Skepta “heating up,” to a story about Adele herself assuring everyone that she’s very much a single woman. Adele and Skepta have allegedly been a thing for about a year, and there have been a few stories about the two of them dating quietly in private. But either they want to keep things private private, or all those stories were lies, because Adele said she’s single.

Wonderwall notes the big clue to Adele’s alleged relationship status can be found in an Instagram post she made on Wednesday, to congratulate herself on a job well done hosting Saturday Night Live this past weekend. Adele channeling her inner awards show recipient (I get it, you’ve got to prepare for when you inevitably sweep the Grammys), by exhaustively thanking the cast and the crew, Maya Rudolph, the audience, Lorne Michaels, wishing everyone a Happy Halloween and a Happy Voting Day. And then right at the bottom, she made what appears to be the revelation that she’s single:

I’m going back to my cave now to be the (single) cat lady that I am! Peace out til next year.”

Of course, the fact that the word “single” was tagged to a joke about being a cat lady doesn’t exactly help clear things up that much. Because as much as any of us know, Adele doesn’t have a home filled with dozens of cats. She’s made it very clear she doesn’t open up her home to any old nocturnal creature, human or animal.

Adele has never confirmed she’s dating Skepta, and the same goes for him. The most we’ve gotten is a bit of Instagram flirting, but that’s not indicative of anything except two Brits getting a little randy on the ol’ clickety-pic (that’s what they call it, right?). There’s also the chance that Adele is one of those people who doesn’t consider casual dating to mean you’re officially not single, especially since she’s just come off a semi-messy divorce. Of course the conspiracy theorist in me wants to take that message as a clue. She put single in brackets. Maybe that’s her way of telling us that she’s about to release a new single? And the single is an ode to the unsung hero of pet adoption, the benevolent cat lady? And it’s due out next year in 2021? No, you’re right – Adele singing about crying brokenhearted tears into a pile of fluffy calicos, tuxeods, and tabbies is really more of a 2020 thing.
