Mindy Kaling Had Another Secret Baby
You might be looking at that large child and wondering just how long ago she had that secret baby. But no, that’s Mindy Kaling’s first secret baby, of course! That happened nearly three years ago, and Mindy kept things very quiet surrounding her pregnancy and subsequent birth of a girl (which she named Katherine). Her new baby isn’t exactly that new; it’s a boy, and he’s over a month old now. But she did keep his pregnancy, birth, and all the important details as quiet as possible.
41-year-old Mindy broke the news last night on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where she revealed to Stephen Colbert that she had joined the so very popular Celebrity Secret Quarantine Baby Club. via People magazine:
Mindy Kaling: I’m telling it for the first time now, it feels so strange. But I gave birth to a baby boy on September 3rd.
Stephen Colbert: No one even knew you were pregnant!
Mindy Kaling: I know! I know! This is news to a lot of people. It’s true.
She had teased the news earlier in the day, by explaining that she had some “big news” to talk about.

Most people didn’t know Mindy was pregnant, but anyone who has seen paparazzi pictures of Mindy in August knew that there was definitely something suspicious going on with her midsection. The Daily Mail published some pictures of Mindy out shopping at a children’s boutique at the end of the summer, which would have been about a month before she gave birth.

Mindy has kept the identity of her daughter’s father a secret, and the same goes for her son. Although I’m sure that won’t stop B.J. Novak from getting DMs from random strangers this morning, wishing him congratulations on his new son.
As for the name, Mindy says her new baby boy is called Spencer. Katherine and Spencer. How very old Hollywood of Mindy. I’m sure she picked Spencer because she liked it (it’s a pretty normal name as far as celebrity baby names goes). But part of me wonders if she didn’t pick it subconsciously after falling asleep to a Tracy-Hepburn marathon on Turner Classic Movies. Yeah, I’ll just go with that.
