Billie Lourd Had A Surprise Baby In Quarantine

Well here’s something I wasn’t anticipating would happen during the pandemic. Apparently a bunch of Chanels have gotten pregnant or given birth to baby boys during the COVID-19 quarantine. Except this is the first that has come as a total surprise. Not only did Billie Lourd get engaged during quarantine, but she also got pregnant, and gave birth to the baby who no one knew she was pregnant with.

28-year-old Billie broke the news on Instagram with a picture of the baby she made with her 28-year-old fiancé of three months, Austen Rydell. Billie didn’t go with the standard celebrity birth announcement of a black and white picture of tiny wrinkled newborn hands. Instead, she posted an in-color picture of tiny wrinkled newborn feet. She also let us know that they named their son Kingston Fisher Lourd Rydell.

Kingston’s middle name is obviously a tribute to her late mama, Carrie Fisher. And I don’t know if the choice of little tiny space jammies is a subtle reference to her mom’s iconic role as Princess Leia in Star Wars, but I’ll be spending my Friday morning crying into my Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

Billie’s uncle (and Carrie’s brother) Todd Fisher confirmed the origins of Baby Kingston’s middle name to E! News, saying:

“I was very touched Billie chose to honor her mother by naming her son Kingston Fisher. It was very unexpected. Billie has been known as Billie Lourd her whole life. It is a very loving thing to give that homage back to Carrie.”

Kingston Fisher is Billie and Austin’s first kid, so congratulations to them. And congratulations to Billie for managing to go nine whole months without dropping so much as the tiniest stretched waistband of a hint that she had a baby on the way. Billie’s phone is no doubt going to be ringing off the hook this weekend. Half from people wanting to congratulate her and Austin. Half from actresses asking, “Would you mind forwarding me the names of the streets, grocery stores, and Rite Aids where you were able to go without getting ambushed by paps?
